Does playing band in college have a great influence on learning?
Have a great influence. Playing a band is completely different from playing the piano alone. It is a team project, you can't arrange the practice time as you like, and every work that the band can perform needs to go through countless run-in rehearsals. Take my friends who play in a band as an example. For each performance, they need at least one month to concentrate on rehearsing. It is common for them to skip classes during the performance, because you can hardly find a few people in the band who just don't have classes. And those friends I know who play well, 70% to 80% have also embarked on music-related roads after graduation, including continuing to play bands, teaching musical instruments, opening musical instruments and so on. Saying this is not to stop you from playing the band, but to make you think clearly that the band is a group undertaking, so you must have a sense of responsibility, and the energy of the university is limited. If you just want to play as a hobby, don't form a band, take part in some club activities, and find a few like-minded friends to play with. If you start a band, it means that you are going to major in music (not just interested), so there are only two outcomes in the end, either let the band give up halfway for your studies, or insist on giving up your original major and taking the road of music.
