There are six provinces (regions) in the southern war zone: Hunan, Guangdong, Guangxi, Hainan, Yunnan and Guizhou. Strategic direction: South China Sea and Southeast Asia.
The northern war zones are Liaoning, Jilin, Heilongjiang, Inner Mongolia and Shandong provinces. Strategic direction: Siberia, Russia.
The western war zones are Sichuan, Tibet, Shaanxi, Gansu, Ningxia, Qinghai, Xinjiang and Chongqing, and the headquarters is in Chengdu.
The central war zones are Hebei, Shanxi, Shandong, Henan, Hubei, Beijing and Tianjin, and the headquarters is in Beijing. The strategic direction guards Beijing and Tianjin.
The eastern war zones are Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Anhui, Fujian and Jiangxi provinces and Shanghai, and the headquarters is in Nanjing. Strategic direction: East China Sea and Taiwan Province Strait.
The western theater of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) is determined according to the general principles of overall management of the military commission, main battle of the theater and main construction of the service, and the security environment of our country and the mission undertaken by the army. It is a regular army level and belongs to the organization and leadership of the Central Military Commission.
