A black, long-haired poisonous spider native to the Sukhum region of Cambodia has become a delicacy on people’s tables. A local hawker said that when business is good, he can sell 100-200 large spiders every day. According to reports, as long as this kind of spider is paired with seasonings such as garlic and salt, and immediately fried thoroughly, it will immediately become crispy and delicious, becoming a "supreme delicacy", so that many outsiders come here to eat it. After Kun went to "enjoy the feast", he took many of these "treasures" home to taste slowly.
Reuters reported that the fried spiders, which sell for 8 cents each, have become an important source of income for poor residents there. Decades ago, local residents accidentally discovered this "very delicious food" while fleeing. Later, they also invented special cooking methods, which meant that they had to eat it as they went, and use "firewood and frying pans to fry it carefully." to maintain its fresh flavor. The fried spiders processed in this way are black and red in color, with a crispy hard shell on the outside and tender and juicy meat on the inside. Therefore, many Phnom Penh residents who like this thing regularly go to Sukhumvit to buy fresh spiders.
The taste of fried spider is described as very bland, "more like between chicken and cod", and different people also say it tastes like fried chicken. The taste is distinct between inside and outside, crispy on the outside, but soft and "juicy" in the middle. Although the legs have little meat, the head and abdomen contain "fine white meat."
However, there are many people who don’t like to eat its belly, because the brown pulp inside is composed of organs and sometimes contains eggs and even feces. Some people call this dish a delicacy, but some people advise not to eat it. For the "connoisseurs" who are well versed in this, the most delicious way to eat it is to fry it and then dip it in garlic sauce seasoned with salt.
