In Minnan culture, "table" does not refer to the square table in our usual home, but the square table. Generally, there are rules for how many people can sit at a table, eight, ten or twelve, because the existence of singular is taboo in southern Fujian, especially nine people can't sit at a table, because in southern Fujian culture, nine and "dog" are homophonic and have insulting meanings. Moreover, the seats are not casually seated, so they must be arranged according to the seniority. Chopsticks can only be moved when they are ready, and they must be lifted in the order of generations before the younger generation can start eating.
"Eating table" generally has regulations on dishes, generally 12 and 16 dishes, which are generally different from wedding dresses and son-in-law tables. At this time, 24 dishes will be served, which is commonly known as "24 flavors" by Minnan people. But six courses are not allowed, because in their culture, in ancient times, six courses were served to those who were sentenced to death, called "decapitated rice". In the process of "serving", the dishes are served together, and the order of what dishes are served in different places is different. But generally speaking, the last dish is steamed fish, which means it has a head and a tail.
And "eating the table", how to use chopsticks is also very particular. In other words, if you want to choose food, you can only choose the one closest to you, not the one. In other words, when picking vegetables, you can't pick left and right. You should put it in the bowl, you can't put it back. If you drop chopsticks, you can't pick them up. You should buy a new pair. When you accidentally break a plate while eating, you will basically say something auspicious, such as "I am interested in falling flowers and good luck".
