Gucao Town is located in Hengyang City. It is a characteristic old street rich in humanistic and historical feelings. The historical and cultural heritage here is very profound and is loved by many tourists. Everyone has been looking for it for a long time, hoping to visit the resort further.
Hengdong County, Hunan Province is known as "the strange fairy cave in Xiyan, the green water, the mountains and fields in all directions, and the ancient town of Caoshi". Caoshi is located 40 kilometers southeast of Hengdong County and southwest of the intersection of Mingshui River and Yongle River. It is an important town in the Mingshui River Basin.
Cao Shi has a long history and is the distribution center for supplies in the southeast of Hengdong County. During the Ming and Qing Dynasties, there was an inspection department, which was famous for its inspection department and military training lawn. In the third year of Xianfeng reign of Qing Dynasty, it was renamed "Cao Shi".
On a recent rainy day, this clear and beautiful Mingshui River turned yellow and muddy, with duckweed and a ferry dock in the distance.
The folk customs in Caoshi Ancient Town are diverse and simple, the most influential of which is "grasping branches". The branch means going to the market at the spring equinox. During the Ming and Qing Dynasties, agricultural officials were diligent and close to the people, and did not neglect agricultural work. They asked the people to prepare farm tools, plow cattle, and sow seeds in time, and designated the vernal equinox as the trading day. This custom continues to this day and has become a unique event in the grass market.
Every spring equinox, merchants and customers come in droves with their own local products, such as farm tools, cattle, food, clothing, bamboo and wood utensils, Chinese herbal medicines, etc. Rapeseed flowers stretch continuously on both sides of the Wei River, reaching as far as Caoshi and nearby villages and towns, as well as the surrounding Hengshan, Youxian, Anren, Chaling, and even Jiangxi.
Every branch, the streets of Cao Shi, Xiping, and even the empty terraces on the hillsides are occupied by temporary stalls and tents, lined up row by row, with an endless stream of people. For three consecutive days, there was a huge crowd and it was a spectacular sight! Even during the People's Commune period, the thunder never stopped.
Up to now, in addition to traditional products, trading products also include hardware, knitted shoes and socks, seedlings, children's toys, snacks of various colors, etc. It's all over the streets. Some local artistic groups also came to perform operas to add to the fun, but it was a pity that we couldn't make it in time for this season.
In the ancient town of Hengcao City in May, we avoided the noisy city and walked lightly on the smooth bluestone. Those past times seemed to return to the station in front of me in an instant, and a quiet and ancient atmosphere passed through and spread around me.
An old photo studio, full of childhood memories
I watched a TV series "Happy Photo Studio" not long ago.
The artistic conception is the same here
Lingshan to the west of Zhentou, it is said that Ganoderma lucidum grows on the mountain and can cure all diseases. Asking for favors in the temple is also very effective. Later generations called it Lingshan. Lingshan is located on the bank of Mingshui River. The mountain is like a copper bell and the peak is solitary.
There is an ancient well on the mountain, which is said to have healing water. Locals told me that Cao's tofu made with mountain spring water is particularly delicious. Looking down from the top of the mountain, the water here surrounds a bay, there are islands in the river, and the green mountains in the distance are full of aura.
This was once a Catholic church. It is said to have been built by Italian missionaries during the Ming and Qing Dynasties. It was canceled in the 1950s and turned into a township health center. It is now dilapidated.
The corner of the stairs is still my favorite.
The quiet alley is winding and winding. I sat here for a long time.
Walking on the old streets of Caoshi, the shiny bluestone slabs, long old streets, traditional old crafts, and honest neighbors all make people feel that time in Caoshi is slow, and everywhere It is the taste of leisure and happiness.
