Cold steaming, also known as wheat silkworm, is a kind of strip food, which is made from full and mature wheat ears, after removing the shell of wheat awn, stir-frying them in an iron pot with slow fire and grinding them with a stone mill.
Cold steaming is blue in color, rich in wheat fragrance, soft in texture, waxy and tough in entrance and unique in flavor. Traditional Chinese medicine believes that it tastes sweet and smooth, and has the effects of strengthening muscles and bones, eliminating dampness and evil spirits, protecting stomach and stopping diarrhea. Cold steaming is more common in Nantong and Huaiyang. Cold steaming is very seasonal. Early summer, usually about ten days. When the wheat is yellow and ripe, the cold steaming will be delisted.
