After the vicissitudes of life, the fashion trend has reappeared. A building in Sam bears too many historical memories. Have you ever heard of the miracle of scrubbing the outer wall of a building with a toothbrush? This is what the Bund 18 renovation and restoration project did.
Read all the prosperity and go through vicissitudes.
The Bund 18 Building, built in 1923, is a European style. Initially, it was the first foreign bank to enter China-the location of the British commercial bank Li Ruyin. It didn't take long to become the headquarters of Standard Chartered Bank in China, and later it was called Macquarie Bank by the Chinese transliteration of the first manager of Standard Chartered Bank Shanghai Branch. 1949 was later called "Chunjiang Building".
Push open the Bund 18 double-color bronze gate, step on the round plastic pattern paved with broken marble, and look up to see the uniform square relief on the ceiling. It is said that this is the architect's careful interpretation of China's idiom "A world apart". The Bund 18 building is five stories high, with Roman classical architectural style, and the triangular top makes it more exquisite and unique. The outer wall at the bottom is paved with granite, and the middle of the second to fourth floors is decorated and supported by two huge love Onek columns, which is very magnificent.
The Bund 18, a two-year renovation project, has concentrated a number of well-known Chinese and foreign companies and skilled craftsmen, such as Italian Kokaistu-dios architectural firm, Tongji University Architectural Design and Research Institute, Baicheng Electromechanical Design Company, Shanghai Dadong Engineering Management Company and Shanghai Decoration Group Company. Seven foreign designers, led by Italian chief designer FilippoGabbiani, adopted a new model of restoring ancient buildings, which not only "repairs the old as the old", but also naturally blends modern design elements with the original architectural style, so that everyone here can feel that the old and the new are distinct but integrated, which can not only find the historical memory of the building but also prevent it from playing new functions.
International standard old district reconstruction
The Bund 18 restoration project follows the research model developed by the School of Architecture of the University of Venice, Italy, which is the most famous in the field of international ancient building restoration. Whether it is a church in the13rd century or a bank building in the 1980s like the Bund 18, it is often used in the renovation projects of various ancient buildings. Engineers attach great importance to "preparing lessons" before restoration, truthfully record the state of the building, and leave a set of research reports for future historians' reference. Architects spent a lot of time studying the Bund 18 building on the Bund before they began to conceive how to rebuild the building. After completing the field drawing survey of the building, they still insisted on going to various archives to find the original drawings when the building was completed 80 years ago. They also asked their neighbors (AIA Building and Peace Hotel) to allow them to enter their buildings. In every window facing Bund 18, they took nearly a thousand photos of Bund 18 from all angles.
Filippo is the main designer of Kokaistudios and has rich experience in the restoration of ancient buildings. The task of him and his team is to participate in the planning and design, to be responsible for the protection and repair of the building and to continue its style. Philip's professionalism made all his colleagues in China admire him. In May 2002, when filippo came to Shanghai alone, he only had a foundation map of the Bund 18. He and the then guard Xiao Li were locked in the building for four days, and then returned to Italy with confidence, and began to design with drawings full of basic data of the building. "
In July of the same year, Philip submitted more than 20 pages of draft design as scheduled. This design draft, which pays attention to protection and rational development, played an important role in the process of Hengyi Real Estate obtaining the Bund 18 project.
Then there is more than a year of intense renovation. Philip and his team arrive at the construction site early every morning and fight in the construction site every day. In summer in Shanghai, the temperature in the closed building is as high as 40 degrees, and Philip has to change 3 or 4 T-shirts every day. Friends began to call him "miner". Their labor finally made the building look brand-new in more than a year.
Because many units worked here before, the interior of the building was divided into two parts. First of all, experts conducted a detailed investigation and study on the structural status and style history of the building, and learned the original intention of the architect when building and the influence of various users of the building on the building. On the basis of careful and rigorous analysis, they confirmed the artistic, aesthetic and historical characteristics of the building, and took these elements as the basis of architectural reconstruction design, so that the building retained historical memory and was given new vitality.
Shizhu is 200 years old.
Walking into the Bund 18, every brick and tree tells the dusty past. The experts in charge of the restoration work were surprised to find that the materials of the four marble columns at the entrance were extinct as early as18th century in Italian architecture. Why does it still appear in Shanghai 1923? After consulting the history, it is found that these four pillars originally came from the Tuscan church in Italy 200 years ago, and later the church was abandoned, so they came to Shanghai through the hands of the British. There is also a bronze door with a combination of Chinese and western styles and an unusually delicate pattern. The restorers were surprised when they used a special solvent to remove the paint layer added later. It turned out to be made of bronze brass. They cooperate so seamlessly that well-informed artists can't help but sincerely admire the superb technology of their predecessors.
Twenty workers used brushes similar to toothbrushes for three months.
Experts used mixed paint made of marble powder, lime and glutinous rice flour to smooth the original mottled corridor interior wall. After drying, the surface is as fine as porcelain and as hard as marble, which can be directly washed with water. It is said that these materials can be guaranteed for more than 20 years, thus avoiding the frequent tossing of this old building. In structural reinforcement, a high-tech carbon fiber reinforcement material is used to strengthen the strength of concrete. When repairing the inner wall, they coated the cotton paper soaked in natural solvent on the marble to dialyze the salt and restore the original color of the marble.
"This building carries too many historical traces, so we must be careful and wait patiently. All these technologies have been used to restore Italian churches with thousands of years of history, "Mr. Philip, an expert in cultural relics restoration from Venice, told reporters. In order to clean the exterior wall surface without damaging it, 20 workers brushed it with a toothbrush-like brush for 3 months. Repairing the interior wall is more detailed. They infiltrated natural solvents into marble through cotton paper, absorbed the salt soaked in it and restored the original color of marble. The original mottled interior wall in the corridor of the building was repainted with a mixed coating of glutinous rice, marble powder and lime powder. It is said that in order to prepare this special coating, they traveled all over the major grain stores in Shanghai and cooked cans of rice for experiments. And the lobby floor. The designer originally planned to use a large piece of marble, but later found that due to ground subsidence, the height difference between north and south was nearly 20 cm, and using a large piece of material would form an ugly slope. So, they carefully spliced together thousands of tiny marbles, which not only avoided the slope, but also matched the original floor style of the next stairs. ...
The chief designer said: "We want to show the viewers what is original and what is new, so that the two will not be confused, and where to transform or keep it is unambiguous. Our job is to create a harmonious sense of integrity for the historical significance and modern practicality of architecture. " The new Bund 18 building does not mean to completely copy or imitate the original style of the building. However, the new interior decoration and renovation project will follow the original architectural spirit, and the new design elements will not destroy the original taste. After a series of analysis and research by the restoration team, the architect identified the parts of the original building that need to be preserved and maintained according to the data and materials of the scheme design, and planned the reconstruction scheme.
Kokaistudios emphasizes the need to maintain a smooth balance between the historical memory and new functions of the building, while avoiding the confrontation and contradiction between the old and new cultures. Therefore, their working team gave the Bund 18 building renewal meaning and vitality. In order to meet these standards, the developers increased a lot of extra investment.
