Two-day tour of Melbourne (including city traffic introduction)
As a stay-at-home mother in a foreign country without any help, it is extremely rare and precious to travel alone for only two days. It was the full support of my husband and friends that completed my journey of mind charging. Thanks for the beginning!

Please see the above article for the origin of this trip: "Australia's first experience of long-distance trains, full-time mothers skip work!" "Falling in love with Melbourne, Sydney changed its mind for ten years and one night." )

The original plan was to experience long-distance trains in Australia, and Melbourne was only a temporary destination. I thought I was not interested in playing more, so I only arranged it for two days. I learned later that this was not enough. I haven't seen all the scenic spots in this city yet. I have to save it for later.

This time, I mainly wandered around the Yalu River, and there were still some places I didn't have time to see. I also sorted it out at the back of this article. If you are interested, you can refer to it. Maybe I can use it myself in the future. Without much gossip, the scenic spots come one by one.

1, Southern Cross Station

Southern Cross Railway Station is an important transportation hub in downtown Melbourne. The long-distance passenger station and the airport passenger station are all here.

Speaking of airport buses, I might as well introduce them. Maybe I will need it myself in the future.

Skybus, the airport bus, takes more than half an hour one way, and runs at 06: 30-19.50 Australian dollars (there is a discount for online ticket purchase) every day. After arriving at Southern Cross Railway Station, you can transfer to their local hotel shuttle bus for free to go to the hotel (SkyBus's free city hotel shuttle bus). You can ask the hotel to book a minibus for you on your return trip. Enter the hotel in the following website and find the nearest station: www.skybus.com.au/free-city-hotel-shuttle/.

There is also a minibus called Starbus, which can go from the airport to the hotels in the city point-to-point, and the one-way fare is 20 Australian dollars.

I came by train from Sydney, not a passenger of Airbus, so I can't enjoy the free shuttle service of their hotel. But my hotel is not far, and it only takes ten minutes to walk. If you are too lazy to walk, you can take the tram. All trams in the city center are free.

The big staircase facing the back of the tram below is the Southern Cross Railway Station. But you can't go up that stairs by train. It's a cross-railway passage leading to the stadium and office building behind the station. The spacious street from the railway station by this tram is called Burke Street. If you want to take the tram, you can get on here.

2. Trams and sightseeing bus in the city are free.

Melbourne has the largest tram network in the world, extending in all directions, not only in the urban area, but also in the surrounding areas.

Previously, I only knew that there was a free tram in Melbourne, which ran every ten minutes, in both directions. The whole journey takes about an hour. I took it once when I first came to Melbourne, and the antique body was very delicious. The jingle of trams gave me the illusion of crossing back to Dalian. The trams in Dalian still exist today, connecting the memories of childhood.

This time I learned that in recent years, Melbourne's convenience measures have made new progress. As long as it is within a certain range of the city, no matter how many trams there are, they are free to ride. When you leave the free zone, there will be a voice prompt in the car.

In addition, there is a free Melbourne city tour shuttle bus in downtown Melbourne. The driver will briefly introduce the scenic spots of the site, which takes half an hour, the whole journey 1.5 hours, and one-way driving. I took it when I first came to Melbourne.

The following figure shows the schematic diagram of free tram coverage in the city, and the green area is bordered by 35 free tram routes.

Myki card in Melbourne

I didn't use the transportation card this time. By the way, let me introduce it.

Melbourne's transportation card is called Myki card. There is a card fee of 6 Australian dollars for handling the card. There is no refund for returning the card, and it takes four years to return it. Moreover, there are no temporary paper tickets to buy. If you want to pay for the car, you must buy a transportation card. For most tourists, it is quite wasteful. However, it is said that starting from this year, Myki cards can be used on Android phones through Google Pay software. The mobile phone itself is an invisible card, so there should be no card fee.

In terms of transportation cards, Opal Card, a transportation card in NSW where Sydney is located, is more humanized. There is no card fee and deposit for card opening. Visitors who don't want to open a card can buy one-time paper tickets, but they can't enjoy the discount of transportation cards.

4. flinders Street Station

Flinders Street is a must-see attraction. This street is full of Melbourne's famous landmarks. Let's start with the scenic spots on this street in turn.

Flinders Railway Station is one of Melbourne's famous landmarks. It is the terminal of local train lines in Melbourne and the earliest railway station in Australia. It has been used for over 1854 years. Typical Victorian architecture, classical and gorgeous, gives people a very different feeling during the day and at night.

I prefer the evening. Whenever I stand at that intersection, my eyes can't help being attracted by it. It is like a cool and energetic big brother, silently waiting for Melbourne and witnessing its growth.

The above picture is only in front of the train station, but the back is actually very long. Otherwise, how can you afford to be the main station of the local train? The long row in the middle of the picture below is it.

5. Federation Square

It was built in 200 1 year to celebrate the anniversary of the founding of the Federation 100. Close to Flinders Railway Station, it is located in a prime location on the Yala River with excellent scenery. The exterior is an irregular shape full of modern elements, including the National Art Museum, Performance Hall, SBS TV Broadcasting Hall, and Passenger Information Center. Many celebrations in Melbourne are held in this square.

Similarly, I prefer evening. This is Melbourne in July. In the coldest winter, there are people sitting on the floor, and they don't feel cold at all. I wandered around taking pictures, and it was not cold. It's a feeling of leisure and tranquility.

6. St. Paul's Cathedral.

From Union Square across flinders Street is St Paul's Cathedral, which is the cathedral of Melbourne Diocese of the Anglican Church. You can visit for free, but you have to pay for taking pictures.

After lighting up these buildings, it is more layered and the photo effect is better than during the day.

7. Melbourne Arts Centre

One of Melbourne's famous landmarks. On the south bank of Yalong River, its steeple with a height of 162 meters is like a ballet skirt, which can be seen from a distance.

However, I prefer at night, which gives me a lot of imagination.

In fact, Hamer Hall, a building with a circular pier by the river, also belongs to the art center. I watched a concert there this time.

Speaking of concerts, it's also quite interesting. I am an amateur, and I don't even know what ticket I bought. Before leaving, I searched all the theaters and concert halls, correctly estimated my English listening, and resolutely gave up all the performances with lines. I thought I bought ballet, but when I went in, I found it was a concert, a concert and a symphony.

This is a mistake. I read the Sacrifice of Spring by the famous Russian-American composer Stravinsky. I looked it up on the Internet and found that all the ballets have been compiled. Yang li Ping's version of the dance is touring all over the world and will soon go to Melbourne.

I thought I didn't understand at all, really, but I cried. I realized what art and music have no borders. Even if I don't understand the language and subtitles, the feelings that the singer wants to convey can hit my heart.

By the time of the second symphony, I almost hugged my chest. At the end of the work, my heart was pounding and I couldn't help saying, "Have you seen enough?"

Listening to symphonies is very different from listening to records. If everyone listens to the scene, I'm afraid few people will say they don't love. Go home and take the baby to listen. There is such a wonderful enjoyment in the world, how can you miss it? Those children who insist on playing the piano often come to the scene to listen. I'm afraid they will learn more actively and happily!

The concert hall is basically full, mostly white-haired elders, ginger is still old and spicy, and the once-in-a-lifetime experience is not covered. What is real enjoyment? They know better than anyone. It's a pity that I haven't figured it out at this age.

Shoot Zhang Quanjing when nobody's around.

I stayed in the art center for a long time this time. Besides the concert, I also visited the exhibition hall downstairs. There is a hole in the basement of the art center. There are free exhibitions of previous performances and costumes.

The lounge with big paintings is quiet and elegant. Sitting in such a place, impetuous heart will get a moment of peace.

Sitting on such a sofa is like sitting in a landscape painting:

Outside the art center, I met this busker, standing in the light during the day. How much love and persistence! Who can say that he is not as good as the protagonist in the spotlight of the art center?

8. National Gallery of Victoria.

Last time I came to Melbourne, I took my children in to have a detailed look, but I didn't go in this time. Passing by the door, I couldn't help taking pictures. Look at this transparent blue sky, it looks much better than last time. Look at the last photo, it's cloudy.

The water curtain glass wall of the art museum is the object that everyone is reluctant to put down. A casual shot is a semi-realistic and semi-abstract painting.

I met this craftsman outside the art gallery and made all kinds of lifelike animals with wire. According to him, it takes about an hour or two to make one. The works of art on the street should be comparable to those in art galleries.

9. graffiti street

In fact, graffiti works are scattered in many places in Melbourne, and there are two most famous ones, Hosier Lane and Union Lane. They are the embodiment that the artistic atmosphere of this cultural capital is deeply rooted in the hearts of the people.

These works are often updated. Come once in a while, and you will find different surprises. It's better to go out for a stroll at night, and you can meet graffiti on the spot:

Similarly, you can cross flinders Street from Union Square and find the entrance of Hosier Lane some distance east of St Paul's Cathedral. Union Lane is near the Royal Arcade, so you can look around and watch it.

Royal arcade street 10

Obviously, it is a shopping center, and more tourists just want to appreciate its architecture. This is a world-famous European classical arcade building. The arcade connects Little Collins Street in the south and Burke Street in the north. I like its simple and tidy ground very much. Black and white are timeless classics. Beauty must take a small photo here.

Many people on the Internet introduced the macaroon booth in the middle. This is a French round cake with different colors and tastes. I don't like food with too bright colors. I don't even want to have a taste when I think of those sweets that are too sweet to be technical. I have lived for a long time and know that there are many things in the world that just look beautiful.

1 1, arcade seat

Near the Royal Arcade, built in 189 1, inspired by Milan's famous shopping corridor. The roof is similar to the royal arcade, and the ancient columns are more court-like.

As soon as I came in, there was a cake dessert shop called Hopetoun Tea Room, which is said to have a history of one hundred years. It is also a punching point among online celebrities. There were few people in the shopping center when I went, but there were already people waiting in line outside the store. I'm not a foodie, and I don't have the patience to spend too much time stuttering, especially such precious travel time.

Coffee Street 12

Melbourne, the top ten coffee cities in the world, is on the list, just like Rome, Paris, Seattle, Vienna, Havana, Vancouver and Sao Paulo. It is said that apart from Italy, there are the most Italians in Australia.

The coffee street recommended on the Internet is called de graaf Street, which is an alley diagonally opposite Flinders Railway Station. It is said that the cafes gathered here are considered to be the best in Melbourne.

I'm not coffee powder. I prefer the lightness of tea to the heaviness of coffee. I have to drink it, but I don't know much about tasting. So I didn't go to coffee street this time. In fact, walking into some alleys at random in the city is similar to the teahouse on the street.

13, Yang and Jackson Hotel and Bar (Yang &; Jackson Hotel. Bar)

It is said that the world food in Melbourne is richer than that in Sydney. Although I don't care much about eating and drinking, I have been shopping in the city for two days in the past two days, but I still have to eat. Whether it is a scenic spot, a river or a narrow lane, there are always people patronizing all kinds of dining tables.

For example, in the middle of Evan's footbridge, there is a floating restaurant called Ponyfish Island Cafe. No matter how the food is cooked, it feels romantic enough.

Next, the riverside restaurant outside Hammer Hall of the South Bank Art Center of Prince Bridge:

young &; Jackson Bar, a restaurant and a hotel have nothing to do with eating.

This young &; The building of Jackson Hotel is very old, and it is a landmark attraction in Australia. More importantly, there is a famous painting called Chole hanging in it. This painting shows the nude of a young Parisian girl, which was created by French painter Jules Joseph Lefebvre in 1875.

This painting won the grand prize and was bought by the owner of this hotel. It has been hanging here since 1909. Many people come here to see Chloe. It is said that all the soldiers going to the battlefield will come here for a drink and say goodbye to her during the war.

The reason why this painting is so famous may be related to the true story behind it. The model, whose real name is Mary, came out as a mannequin in her early years to earn her and her sister's living expenses. A year after the painting was completed, the painter married her sister. Another year passed and she committed suicide by drinking poison. The reason why she committed suicide can only be guessed. Maybe the two sisters fell in love with the painter at the same time? Maybe the painter is having an affair with two sisters at the same time?

People are so interested in this painting to pay homage to a silly and persistent love?

The location of the bar is easy to find. It is located at the four corners of the intersection of Flinders Railway Station, Federal Square and St. Paul's Cathedral. When I passed by, the restaurant area with pictures on the second floor was not open yet, so time was precious and I didn't wait long. We'll know what's going on It doesn't matter whether you look at the original painting or not.

Williamstown 14

Williamstown is about 9 kilometers from downtown Melbourne, and it only takes 15 minutes by car. Built in 1837, it is the first pier in Melbourne. In earlier years, European immigrants came by boat and landed here. Now it has become a good place for leisure and vacation. There are beaches, botanical gardens, science factories, antique car exhibitions, restaurants and shops, which can kill a lot of time.

Surrounded by the sea on three sides, the town overlooks the high-rise buildings in the center of Melbourne and has excellent scenery. The town is quiet and the buildings are clean and retro. Although it is close to the bustling city, it feels like a paradise.

Here, in addition to driving, you can also take the train and take the Williamstown Line from Flinders Railway Station, which takes about half an hour by car. Although driving and taking the train are fast, the most suitable mode of transportation for tourists is ferry.

About an hour's boat ride, you can enjoy many famous landmarks in Melbourne and various bridges on the Yarra River. For tourists, it not only saves physical strength, but also saves the trouble of finding a way. Because it is from the river to the inland sea, there is no wind and waves at all, so there is no need to worry about seasickness.

From the busiest center of Melbourne, we sailed along the river to the estuary, and the slightly yellow river slowly turned into blue sea water. Some people are fishing along the coast, and seagulls pass by in droves. How can you not relax?

Boarding place is the south bank pier, about 50 meters after disembarking from the south bank of the footbridge in downtown Melbourne, near the south gate. The landing site is the Gem Pier in Williamstown.

No matter what the weather is, the daily departure time can be guaranteed at 10:30, 12:30, 14:30, and will be extended to every hour if necessary. The voyage is about 1 hour. Return 1 1:30, 13:30, 15:30. There is a 10% discount for purchasing tickets online in advance, or you can buy tickets on the spot. The advantage is flexible arrangement. Official website of williamstownferries.com.au Ferry Company

Although it is winter, it is sunny and windless, and it is not cold to sit on the deck. From the downtown with many high-rise buildings, slowly enter the estuary with a wide view.

The ship that served in World War II in the lower right corner of the picture below is parked on the pier in Williamstown. If you are interested, you can visit it.

Bridges, large and small, on the Yarra River pass over our heads, with a unique perspective that neither driving nor walking can give.

The red helicopter below is a sightseeing plane. I just need to take pictures. Even passenger planes love dizziness. I stick to the principle I set for myself when I went to Kangaroo Island: I will never let my body suffer for fun again. I also remember my sister once said, "There are some things, just look at photos and videos, and you don't have to try them yourself." Also, what others think is enjoyable may be suffering for us. Don't be greedy.

This trip to Melbourne coincides with the full moon. A golden and bright full moon hangs in the air, and the deep Yarra River is like a huge canvas, on which the moon and the neon of the city are quietly painted.

On this quiet night in another country, my heart is full of warmth and strength again!

Other scenic spots are attached separately. I don't have time to go on this trip, so I'll arrange it here for reference. The general order of scenic spots in the city is from north to south:

Queen Victoria Market: The largest market in Melbourne, with more than 1000 stalls selling vegetables, meat, fish, souvenirs, snacks and delicious food. For those who don't like shopping or have been to Sydney Market City, this is not a must-see place, and it is similar everywhere.

Melbourne central: Built in 1888, it used to be a place where bullets were made, but now it is a shopping center. There are more than 300 steps in the tower museum, and the world's largest pocket watch wall clock.

Victoria State Library: Built in 1854, it is the oldest public library in Australia. Because the octagonal reading room with a huge vault on the third floor attracts many tourists. There are also occasional art exhibitions on the second floor. If you want to take a panoramic view from upstairs, the elevator can only go to the fifth floor at the highest. You can find the stairs leading to the fifth and sixth floors in the middle of the landscape area on the fourth floor.

Royal Exhibition Building, Melbourne Museum: both in Carlton Garden. The Royal Exhibition Hall is the only ancient building in Australia that has been listed in the United Nations "World Cultural Heritage". Melbourne Museum is the largest museum in the southern hemisphere. The largest IMAX cinema in the world. The most attractive thing is the whale specimen stranded on the ocean road.

St Patrick's Cathedral: One of the tallest churches in the world, a famous Gothic building.

Fitzroy Garden: It is the former residence of Captain Cook. It really moved from England. If you want to buy a ticket, you can try on Victorian clothes and take photos for free. There is also a former residence of Captain Cook in the rock area of Sydney. Captain Cook was a great English navigator in the18th century. He discovered many islands in the Pacific Ocean, such as Australia, New Zealand and Hawaii.

The sky deck of Eureka Tower is 88: 89 high, which is said to be the tallest residential building in the world and has the fastest elevator in the southern hemisphere. The 88th floor is open to the public and is surrounded by glass.

Crown Casino: The second largest casino in the world, where you can also enjoy food and shopping. Foreigners can apply for a membership card with their passports and get 10 chips for free. Every night from 7: 00 to 12: 00, eight stone pillars along the river outside the square will fire for about five minutes at a time.

DFO: It is said that it is cheaper than DFO in Sydney.

Victoria War Memorial: It is said that every year 1 65438+1October1early morning1,that is, at the end of World War I, the sunlight coming from a small hole in the glass patio of the memorial just shines on the word "love" on the monument. At this time, many tourists will gather to watch. At ordinary times, there will be lights simulating sunshine at 1: 30 every day.

Royal Botanical Garden: The largest national botanical garden in Australian cities.

Surrounding attractions outside Melbourne:

The Great Ocean Road and Phillip Island, also known as Penguin Island: These two places are a must, and they are also the key targets when I first drove in Victoria. If there is a chance, I'd like to see penguins return to their nests again. Every time I come into contact with wild animals, I feel heartfelt sigh and happiness.

Brighton Beach: A row of rainbow huts on the beach is an excellent background for taking pictures.

St Kilda seaside: Go up to the pier trestle of St Kilda and go straight to the iron gate, which is the Penguin Protection Center. On the shore near the iron gate, you can see wild penguins in the evening, which is not as big as Penguin Island. There is also a kind of protected animal-water rat.

Dandenong Mountain: About half an hour's drive from downtown. The observation deck on the highest peak overlooks Melbourne and its surrounding areas. You can also take the Expanded Billy Railway to shuttle through the forest. The total length of the steam train is 1 10 minutes, and there are five stops: Belgrave, Menzies Creek, Emerald, Lakeside and Kimbrook. I suggest you sit at any stop and experience it. The scenery behind is similar, the time is too long, and the tickets are not cheap.

Sovereign Hill in Ballarat, a gold mining town, has been rated as the best tourist attraction in Australia for many years. About two hours' drive from Melbourne. From Melbourne, you can take the V line directly, and there is a bus transfer after getting off. You can experience the history and technology of gold panning and have the opportunity to try gold panning by the river. There is a big light show about gold panning in the evening.
