Cultural connotation of light cake: Fuqing light cake has profound historical and cultural connotation. In the forty-first year of Jiajing in Ming Dynasty (1562), Qi Jiguang led the troops to Fuqing to pursue the enemy. In order to reduce the cooking time, each battalion is arranged to bake moxibustion with charcoal fire, make round cakes with flour, and open a small hole in the middle, so that soldiers can hang them around their necks with hemp ropes, which is convenient to carry when marching, and also serves as temporary dry food, which greatly enhances the mobility of the team.
Since then, in memory of Qi Jiguang, Fuqing people have copied this kind of round cake, which is called light cake. In 2008, the technology of making light cakes was listed as an intangible cultural heritage protection project in Fuqing City.
