"Girls' Day" originated in memory of the heroine Yang Bamei. According to legend, in the Northern Song Dynasty, the famous Yang was ordered by the plain barbarians. After the defeat, he was framed by the court traitors and jailed. All the food sent by relatives to visit the prison was taken away by the jailer and other prisoners. His sister, Yang Bamei, suddenly had a plan to turn white rice into black rice with herbs and fragrant flowers, so that the jailers and prisoners would not rob the rice for fear that it was poisonous. Yang was able to have a hearty meal and gradually recovered his strength. Finally, on the night of the eighth day of the fourth lunar month, his brother and sister escaped from prison. The legend has spread to this day and evolved into a traditional festival handed down from generation to generation by Miao people.

Besides eating black rice, Miao people also drink boiled rice wine and sing Daqu to celebrate Girls' Day. This day has also become a "Valentine's Day" for young Miao men and women. During the day, they will exchange love songs and talk to each other in the tea shed in a secluded place in the forest. The chorus form of this folk song is called "Song". People in Miao village can sing since childhood. Singing at the wedding, entertaining guests, eating and drinking, and even drinking tea and carrying water have been integrated into the daily life of Miao people in our county.
