The birthplace of Xiangjiang River is in Lanshan County, Hunan Province, which belongs to Hunan Province. Xiangjiang River, with a total length of 844 kilometers, flows through Yongzhou, Hengyang, Zhuzhou, Xiangtan and Changsha in Hunan Province, and finally flows into Dongting Lake, a Yangtze River system from Xiangyin County, Yueyang.

Xiangjiang River is the largest river in Hunan Province and one of the earliest tributaries of the Yangtze River Basin in flood season. It is rich in water, and runoff mainly comes from rainfall. Xiangjiang River has been the main waterway for the Central Plains to enter Lingnan since ancient times.

Xiangjiang River system is located in the south of Yangtze River and north of Nanling Mountain, with Luo Xiao Mountain and Ganjiang River system in the east and Hengshan Mountain adjacent to Zishui in the west. Tributaries Xiaoshui, Fuling Water, Leishui, Weishui, Suishui and Liuyang River flow into the main stream from the east coast, while tributaries Qishui, Steamed Water, Juanshui, Lianshui and Suishui flow into the main stream from the west coast.

On both sides of the Xiangjiang River, red cliffs are like clouds, white sands are like snow, weeping willows are like silk, and sails are like clouds, which constitute the beautiful Xiangjiang River scenic belt in Changsha.
