Turmeric is a popular healthy food in recent years. Although the appearance of turmeric is similar to that of ginger and ginger used for cooking, it is actually completely different. The cross section of turmeric is like the yellow color of curry, and the taste is much worse. Turmeric is a common spice all over the world, and curry is colorful because it contains turmeric. But many people will ask: eating turmeric is good for your health, but how should you eat it? How much is better? ...

Curcumin is a polyphenol compound in turmeric, which has been proved to have anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, antioxidant and anti-tumor properties in many studies, and its antioxidant capacity is better than that of vitamins C and E. However, many studies belong to in vitro or animal experiments, and more studies are needed to determine its function and dosage in order to achieve obvious differences in human bodies.

Fresh turmeric can be sliced and baked in the oven into crispy turmeric cakes, which can be eaten directly or soaked in hot water. You can also grind fresh turmeric into powder, soak it directly in hot water, add it to fruit juice to avoid the cold, add it to curry sauce, marinate the meat and make steamed bread.

How much to eat

I see many relatives and friends around me, and they all have a big jar of turmeric powder. Some people will eat it directly with a spoon, while others will eat it. How much should I eat? How much can I eat?

JECFA(FAO/ WHO Joint Expert Committee on Food Additives) suggested that the daily intake of curcumin should be 0~3 mg/kg body weight/day. Just to remind you, the amount mentioned here is "curcumin", not turmeric powder. Please refer to the packaging section for the conversion method. Some will write out the content of curcumin, and you can know the addition amount of turmeric powder by calculation.

However, I have seen it in organic shops and supermarkets nearby, and most of them are not marked, and I don't know the content of curcumin in turmeric powder that I have asked others to grind at home. Finally, I saw a brand of turmeric powder in a well-known organic store, which read: a whole package of 200 grams contains 2~3% curcumin. If converted in this way, each package of 200 grams contains 4000~6000 mg of curcumin. For a 60 kg adult, JECFA suggests that the daily intake of curcumin is 0~ 180 mg, so it is about one day.
