When Xu Beihong praised Zhang Daqian's artistic achievements, he called him "the first man in 500 years", but Zhang Daqian said, "As far as artistic matters are concerned, I am good at cooking, even better than painting".

Zhang Daqian's "skills" include "eating" and "cooking". The master of modern painting is an outstanding gourmet.

In Zhang Daqian's view, eating is not just for eating, it has risen to the highest art of life. He is not only good at eating, but also knows how to cook.

Zhang Daqian's daughter Zhang Xinrui once said:

Zhang Daqian eats one every time he goes.

In the 1940s, Zhang Daqian painted murals in Dunhuang for nearly three years. In such a difficult environment, Zhang Daqian can still use local materials to solve the problem of greed.

He has a menu in Dunhuang, which contains mutton soup, sweet and sour steak, three fresh mushrooms, bean curd with soy sauce, Buddha's foot ice cream and so on.

Mushrooms are collected from weeds around the Mogao Grottoes, and the ice used for the Buddha's foot ice cream is really taken from the Buddha's foot.

When he left Dunhuang, Zhang Daqian specially drew a "secret map" of the growing place of wild mushrooms, marking the picking route and time in detail as a gift to local friends.

When his wife Xu Wenbo celebrates her birthday, Zhang Daqian will cook beef noodles himself. In addition to four different flavors of beef, there will be a plate of green coriander, a plate of fried mung bean sprouts with red pepper, and there will be eight dishes around, which contain eight condiments, such as salt, pepper noodles, sugar, vinegar, soy sauce, spicy oil, noodle sauce and lobster sauce.

When the painter cooks, don't say the taste. The color matching of the dishes alone has made people's appetite open and mouth water.

Zhang Daqian settled in Taiwan Province Province in his later years and became close friends with Zhang Xueliang and Zhang Qun, known as "Three Zhang".

Zhang Daqian hosted a banquet in Taipei for Zhang Xueliang and his wife. Zhang Xueliang took it and carefully framed it into a handkerchief, leaving a blank behind.

The following year, he invited Zhang Daqian to draw Chinese cabbage, radish and spinach on it, entitled "Ji Guang and Beauty", and Zhang Daqian wrote a poem on it:

1992, when this treasure was exhibited in Washington, it caused a sensation in the local painting and calligraphy circles and cooking circles.

In this world, the difference between people is that some people eat to live and eat, while others regard eating as an art and want to please themselves besides eating.
