I. Planting techniques
1. Soil preparation: When planting pumpkins, choose a suitable planting place. Loose and fertile soil is more suitable for its growth. The planting site should be sunny. Don't plant it in the air or in the shade. Otherwise, if you don't see the light for a long time, the yield and quality of pumpkin will decline, and it is more prone to diseases. After applying the base fertilizer, dig deep, then level the land, and then mix the soil with the base fertilizer to get ready for planting after border planting.
2. Seed selection: There are many varieties of pumpkins with different growth habits. Varieties with short growth cycle, strong disease resistance and high yield should be selected. Common ones are Damopan pumpkin and honey pumpkin.
3. Treatment method: In order to make the pumpkin yield high, the seeds should be full, and the shriveled and deformed seeds should be removed. Sun the seeds for 2-3 days to enhance the vitality of the seeds, then soak them in warm water at 55℃, keep stirring for about 15 minutes, and continue soaking for 3-4 hours until the temperature difference between water is not reduced to 30℃.
After that, clean the mucus on the seeds, wrap the seeds with wet cloth, put them in a warm room and accelerate germination at room temperature of 25~30℃. Most seeds can only be planted after they are white.
4. Planting: Pumpkins can be planted by direct seeding, the plant spacing is controlled at 30-50cm, 3-4 seeds are placed in each planting hole, and the seeds germinate in about 1-2 weeks after sowing. When pumpkin seedlings emerge, if there is enough base fertilizer in the soil, there is no need for topdressing. After the seedlings grow to 3-5 true leaves, they should be interplanted and planted in time. When thinning seedlings, weak seedlings and deformed seedlings are mainly eliminated, and strong seedlings are kept.
Second, the management technology
The suitable temperature for pumpkin growth is 25~27℃, which is not resistant to high temperature. When the temperature is higher than 35℃, the growth will be limited and slow down.
Drainage should be done well in rainy season to avoid rainwater accumulation in the soil, otherwise there will be rotten roots and vines. Pay attention to water control before flowering and fruiting to avoid excessive growth, but water more after fruiting to promote better fruit expansion.
