The main form of ancient book binding is thread binding, and its development process has gone through bamboo slips binding (Zhou Dynasty), silk book binding (Zhou Dynasty), scroll binding (Han Dynasty), cyclone binding (Tang Dynasty), warp binding (Tang Dynasty), butterfly binding (Song Dynasty), Bao Bei binding (Yuan Dynasty) and finally thread binding (Ming Dynasty). Except for a few old books, most modern books and periodicals are bound in western style.

Locking seam:

Fold and paste the book block into a book, string the book posts closely in front and back order with thread, and then wrap them with the cover.

Advantages: firm and easy to spread, suitable for thick books or hardcover books. Compared with paperback binding, the shape of the book has no stitching, and it can be flattened no matter how many pages are opened, which is an ideal binding form.

Disadvantages: the cost is high, and the number of pages must be even before sewing in half.
