Autumn wind blows to eat crabs.
Suzhou, which has delicious food in all seasons, eats salty food in spring, meaty noodles in Fengzhen in summer, hairy crabs in autumn and mutton in winter to warm the stomach. Half a century ago, Mrs. Zhang Taiyan of Ceng Yun said, "Why live in Suzhou when you are not as good as crabs in Yangcheng Lake?" Whenever "the autumn wind rises and the crab's feet itch", Suzhou people are undoubtedly the happiest, because the best hairy crabs choose to live here!
Yangcheng Lake crabs have four characteristics: the back of crab shell is bluish gray, the navel is white, the fur of crab legs is yellow, the roots are tall and straight, and the crab claws are golden and powerful. Anyone who knows how to eat knows that even with the anti-counterfeiting label, although the thick paste and delicate meat will remain unchanged after all the way to other places, the unique delicacy always makes people feel lacking.
There are many farmhouses around Weiting Crab Market and Repulse Bay in Yangcheng Lake Peninsula to eat. Besides eating hairy crabs, you can also travel around the peninsula by bike and enjoy the beautiful scenery of Yangcheng Lake.
"Water Eight Immortals" taste fresh vegetables.
As the saying goes, "relying on mountains to eat mountains, relying on the sea depends on the sea." Of course, there are many lakes and waterways in the south of the Yangtze River, and they eat by the lake. Suzhou people, who love to eat in season, have given a nice name to the local characteristic aquatic vegetables-Water Eight Immortals. The Eight Immortals are Zizania latifolia, lotus root, cress, arrowhead, Euryale ferox, water chestnut and water shield.
Suzhou lotus root was famous all over the country in the Tang Dynasty, and it is a treasure in tribute. Water shield from Taihu Lake was included as a tribute in Ming Dynasty, and water bamboo was also included as a tribute in Qing Dynasty.
Euryale ferox, a famous chicken head rice in Suzhou, is notoriously difficult to pick and peel. A catty can peel three or two finished products at most. It is the most expensive of the "Eight Immortals" and is called "Ginseng in Water". Shen Chaochu, a poet in the Qing Dynasty, also wrote a poem "Remembering Jiangnan and Singing the Head of a Chicken". After beginning of autumn, it is the harvest season of chicken head rice. At this time, it tastes tender, chews soft and elastic. Whether it's sugar water, porridge or stir-fry, it tastes good.
Dongshan orange blushed.
In autumn, in addition to hairy crabs, the fresh fruits of Dongshan Island and Sanshan Island should not be underestimated. The most famous is Dongshan orange. Orchards, temples, forest parks and roadsides are all occupied by fruit-bearing orange trees.
At that time, "Orange is Red", which was popular all over the country, was shot in Luxiang Ancient Village on the Dongshan Mountain of Taihu Lake. Now, oranges are still very popular every autumn.
Clear soup, strong salt water, good topping.
It is strange for northerners to come to Suzhou. Why are noodle shops everywhere in the streets of the land of fish and rice? Moreover, there are often "proud" shopkeepers who close their doors after lunch. This attitude of "not eating after noon" comes from Suzhou people's obsession with noodle soup. When you understand the mystery, you will understand the meaning of Su-style noodles.
Soup refers to the clear water in the first pot when cooking noodles. The cooked noodles should be clear, so that the noodles can be refreshing. And the noodle soup is delicious. The ingredients used to make soup are pork, ham, native chicken, fish head, eel bone and so on. Suzhou people cook noodle soup, but they don't cook, stew or cook, which is called "hanging". Literally, what they want is novelty.
Suzhou people eat noodles and are greedy for toppings on them. Noodles are a bowl of refreshing Yangchun noodles, and the topping is placed on the plate. Diners can pour the topping directly on the noodles, that is, with or without the cover. This is called "crossing the bridge".
Suzhou snack "Xiaoquan"
It is strange for northerners to come to Suzhou. Why are noodle shops everywhere in the streets of the land of fish and rice? Sushiyue pancakes
Su-style moon cakes and Cantonese-style moon cakes occupy half the sky, and you will understand W.
Su-style wonton, with thin skin and little stuffing, blows bubbles like balloons. When you go in, please feel the meat bit by bit. If you are not careful, it will slip into your throat. Wonton is tasteless, and it all depends on bone soup.
Recommendation: You can go to Qufang Wu's Le Hui wonton and Jeffery Ji wonton.
Nine niang cake
The cake is a bit like a moon cake, with red bean paste, sesame seeds and roses in it. You must eat it while it is hot. Bite it down and the sweet and waxy juice will overflow.
Recommended: Available in Huang Tianyuan.
Crab shell yellow
In fact, crab shell yellow has nothing to do with crabs, but when Emperor Qianlong first ate it, he thought it was shaped like the crab shell of a hairy crab and got its name. This shortcake is covered with sesame seeds. It tastes crisp and refreshing, salty and sweet.
Recommended: the crab shell yellow fried with big ears is the most famous, and the golden wheat crab shell yellow near Pingjiang Road in Daru Lane is also delicious.
Tang Zhou
"DuDu, selling sugar porridge, three catties of walnuts and four catties of shells" is a nursery rhyme in Suzhou. Cook the porridge and red beans separately, and finally pour the bean paste on the porridge. It tastes sticky and slippery. This dessert can be found in most snack bars in Suzhou.
Recommendation: The most famous is Pan Yulin sugar porridge run by an old couple. There is no fixed storefront, only carts. It is sold from noon to 3 pm, and it will not be sold out in rainy days.
Gaotuan
Suzhou people like to eat cakes, such as lard cake, fairy cake, Chongyang cake, begonia cake, red bean cake and so on.
Recommendation: Remember to try the Yangbing. This shop only makes two things-red bean cake and red bean lard cake. Those with lard are more fragrant and rich in flavor, but not suitable for the elderly.
: Look at Qianjie, and go to eat special blocks.

Guanqian Street is the most famous and oldest street in Suzhou, and it is also the concentration area of time-honored brands. It is the first choice for buying specialty products and handwritten letters. Guanqian Street is the most authentic Soviet cuisine and the location of a century-old shop. You can go to Caizhizhai to buy some calligraphy, or go upstairs for a cup of tea and watch a pingtan performance.
Shantang Street
Bai Juyi, who has "Three Stories of Jiangnan", built Qili Shantang, a Shantang Street parallel to River Street, which has been very prosperous since the Tang Dynasty. Streets stand by the river, with small bridges and flowing water, which is the epitome of old Suzhou.
Today, a part of Shantang Street has been transformed into a scenic spot full of tourists, but more interesting scenes appear in its undeveloped second half. Scenes of vegetable market, snack bar and folk life are presented one by one. Seven ancient bridges in the street cross the river and eight cross the river bank. You can even find small stone beavers on the bridge.
Pingjiang road
The present appearance of Pingjiang Road is no different from that painted on Pingjiang Map in Song Dynasty. Seventeen ancient bridges with different shapes span He Jiang, with criss-crossing alleys and low white walls and green houses.
Here is the epitome of the old south of the Yangtze River, which goes hand in hand with land and water, adjacent to the river street, and the old house is full of long-tune pingtan music. The buildings on both sides witnessed the prosperity of ancient Suzhou, and the streets combined with Shiban Road were littered with ancient wells during the Republic of China.
Nowadays, literary bookstores and creative bars on Pingjiang Road have become the must-see places for young artists. Stay for one night and see what kind of sparks can be struck between classical literature and art.
