In the old society, people stopped wearing shroud after death and burned paper carts and horses at the gate. The eldest son led the deceased to the younger generation and "broke into the tunnel door" at the entrance of the mourning hall. At the funeral, relatives stood in silence, and children brushed their faces, put coffins and set up mourning halls. The rest time is 1-3 days for the poor and 7-49 days for the rich. During the mourning period, the relatives of the deceased wore white clothes and went to the Earth Temple to burn incense paper and send syrup three times a day to mourn the sacrifices. In the middle of the next night, the spirits were summoned in the former residence, and paper money, paper cows and paper men were burned in the land temple, which was called sending travelling expenses. Before the funeral, Mr. Yin Yang was hired to look at Feng Shui and choose a cemetery. Rich people open doors in advance, build brick troughs and build hanging graves. On the day of the funeral, the porter saluted, the monk chanted sutras and had fun with his hands, followed by a memorial ceremony and walked slowly. Family member Dai Xiao dragged a wicker and cried. Relatives and friends set up offerings on the way, making three obeisances and nine knocks, which is called "road sacrifice". The poor are either thin coffins or swept away and buried in pits.
Three days after the burial, the family scattered grain around the new grave. Go to the grave and cry once every seven days, which is called "burning seven" and ends on July 7th. One hundred days and the first, second and third anniversaries, they all went to the cemetery to offer sacrifices.
After the founding of People's Republic of China (PRC), the funeral was reformed. 1March, 977, cremation began in the county town, and the wooden coffin burial was cancelled, and the funeral was simple. The official ceremonies of government agencies, schools, troops and factories are: farewell to the remains, cremation and memorial service. There are different procedures in rural areas. After death, someone took a bus to protect the body and went to the crematorium for cremation. They took the urn back to the village and sent it directly to the cemetery for burial. The others were left at home and buried in the cemetery on the third day. The new atmosphere of wearing black veil, offering wreaths and holding memorial service is gradually emerging.
