A city in the early 1980s. Liu Hongchang (Huang Zhizhong), an older young man who works in the State-run No.2 canteen, falls in love with Wen Hui (Zuo Xiaoqing), who gave up the opportunity to go to college because of his poor family. Although Liu Hongchang's mother (Song Chunli) and brother tried to stop him, Liu Hongchang married Wen Hui. Wen Hui's younger brother Wen Tao and younger sister Wen Yuan (Tan Ya) are also hostile to this brother-in-law. After Wen Hui got pregnant for the second time, a sudden disaster happened at home.
