When I was young, people around me told me the story of "the shepherd's child and the wolf" to educate me to be an honest person. At that age, in my opinion, it was just a story written by my parents or other people I knew to scare me. As I grow older, I know this is a fable in a very famous book, Aesop's Fables.
Aesop's Fables was not written by Aesop, but collected and arranged by him. The ancient working people created the stories in the book. They created these stories with their own life experience and imagination, and then handed them down from generation to generation.
This book is one of the precious cultural heritages. There are more than one hundred fables in this book. The protagonists of most fables are animals or plants, and they are portrayed like people. This writing skill is called personification and is often used in fables and fairy tales.
Every short and easy fable tells us a philosophy. There are two stories that impressed me the most. The first one is "the tortoise and the eagle". A tortoise is complaining about her tragic fate. When an eagle hovers over a bear, no one will teach her to fly. He heard her lament and promised that if she could give him some rewards, he would give her a ride and let her float in the air. Then he took her to the sky, and suddenly he let her go. The tortoise fell to the mountain. At the moment of death, she cried and said, "I deserve my present fate, because what do I have to do with wings and clouds? Who can move hard on the earth?" This story tells us that if people get everything they want, they will be destroyed. I quite agree. Take our personal life as an example. Everyone has his own advantages and disadvantages. One is good at singing, while the other is good at dancing. No one can have all the imaginable skills. This is why some people are suitable for making decisions, while others are suitable for implementing them. So we don't need to be jealous of others, because we have our own characteristics and others don't.
The second is "The Bear Restaurant and Two Travelers". It tells us that misfortune tests the sincerity of friends. People live among a group of friends, some of whom are true friends and some are false friends. When you are in trouble, observe the attitude of your friends towards you, and you will find out who is your real friend and who is not.
Aesop's Fables is a good book, which can help us learn more philosophy of life and useful new words.
Reflections on English Reading of The Old Man and the Sea
This summer vacation, I read Hemingway's novel The Old Man and the Sea. I admire the will of the old fisherman in the novel very much. He made me understand that a person must have indomitable spirit, and only in this way can he succeed.
The novel describes an old fisherman who is nearly sixty years old. When he went fishing alone, he caught a big fish, but he couldn't pull it up. A few days after the fish was socialized, the old fisherman discovered that it was a marlin several times larger than his fishing boat. Although he knew it was difficult to win, he still didn't give up. Later, because of the fishy smell in the wound of marlin, several groups of shark fish grabbed food, but the old man still didn't want to give up like this. Finally, he broke through and returned to the fishing port with big fish, which made other fishermen not admire.
When I read "The old fisherman thought: It's really too close to the coast, maybe there will be bigger fish farther away …", I admired the old fisherman very much, because he had already projected some fish, but he was not satisfied with the status quo, but was moving towards a bigger goal. Look at us again, we usually encounter some difficulties, and we all complain incessantly. We are the future of our motherland, and we should be as ambitious as this old man and pursue better and bigger goals.
When I read that "the big marlin began to circle around the small fishing boat quickly, winding the cable around the mast, the old man held the steel fork high in his right hand, and at the moment when it jumped out of the water, he tried his best to jump into its heart. A wail ended the life of the big fish, and it floated quietly on the water …", my heart also fell like a big stone. I admire the old man's indomitable spirit. Although he knew that his opponent was very strong, he did not flinch at all, but rose to the challenge. It is because of this spirit that the old fisherman succeeded in this life-and-death contest. We should also learn from the old fisherman's spirit in our life, and we are not afraid of difficulties in doing things. Only in this way can we succeed.
The fishy smell of the big fish being read was smelled by a group of sharks, and they struggled to come and grab food. The old man's left hand happened to twitch, so he had to defend himself with his right hand, stick, mouth and other weapons that could be used to attack, and finally expelled the sharks. However, the meat of the big fish has been eaten by more than half, and the old man criticized his left hand in a serious way. "This working time is a rest." I was also impressed by the optimistic spirit of the old man. In life, some losses are inevitable, so we should treat them with optimism and not haggle over every ounce.
Finally, the novel saw a big marlin with a length of 18 feet by a young old fisherman, which once again described the huge size of the fish, indicating that the old fisherman overcame great difficulties and was extraordinary.
The novel eulogizes the old fisherman's spirit of hard work despite difficulties. Like him, we should not be satisfied with the status quo, should be positive, do everything unremittingly, meet difficulties and never give up halfway. Only in this way can we achieve greater success and victory.
Reflections on English reading-Jane Eyre, her simplicity and loneliness, her wandering in Thornfield House, her unfortunate Childwood, contradictory love and religious taboos can not stop her from pursuing a better life and cherishing human nature. She broke free from the shackles that imprisoned her spirit. Through struggle, she overcame poverty, customs, social standards and piety that prevented her from realizing her dream of happiness, and finally became her own master! It can be said that Jane's life was won through revenge and pursuit, and she did her best until she won the sunshine. The sun is now in her palm, shining brightly on her!
In fact, a person has endless thoughts about the brightest sunshine after the storm. I always think in difficult situations, if the suffering of this life is over, if the road is no longer curved, if I try my best to come to an end, can I see the dazzling sunshine? Because the most important meaning in life is that in the process of suffering, you realize the value of your life and take away all the painful misfortunes. Only then can we see the true light of the golden sun. ...
The Merchant of Venice
One of Shakespeare's most complicated plays, The Merchant of Venice. In the decadent version of Venice in the Renaissance, a young nobleman named Bassanio tried to woo the lovely Portia, but he couldn't afford to go to her manor. He sought support from his friend, businessman Antonio; Antonio's property is closely related to offshore investment, so the merchant offered to borrow money from Shylock, a Jewish money lender. But Shylock bears a grudge against Antonio, because he has always despised the Jews and demanded that if the debt is not repaid within three months, the price will be one pound of Antonio's flesh.
The Merchant of Venice is a famous "problem drama"-the thorny issues of money lending and anti-Semitism are uncomfortably compared with the romantic fairy tale elements of Portia and Bassanio, and some plot distortions seem arbitrary and even cruel. The strength of Radford's wisdom and passionate interpretation lies in that he and excellent actors invest in the opposite aspects of the play with sufficient emotional weight, so that every question raised in the play is sharp and unavoidable. Hardcore is particularly eye-catching; Kindness and blind prejudice sit side by side in his chest, making the conflict in his character as vivid as the conflict in the play.
I don't know your word requirements, so I have to give you all the long and short ones.
