Jincheng has six counties (cities, districts) under its jurisdiction: downtown, Zezhou, Gaoping, Yangcheng, Lingchuan and Qinshui.

Jincheng is located in the southeast of Shanxi Province, bordering Taihang Mountain in the east, Central Plains in the south, Yellow River in the west and Youyan in the north. Shanxi has a moderate geographical position and convenient transportation, and is an important gateway to the Central Plains. Taijiao and Houyue Railway run through the territory, and Jinjiao Expressway, Changjin Expressway, Jinyang Expressway, 207 national highway, provincial highway, county road and township road are interwoven into a network, with convenient land transportation.
