Blockbuster refers to movies with large investment and high production cost, mostly movies with major themes and wide influence, starring famous movie stars.

As the name implies, blockbusters are "big" movies with big directors, big stars, big productions, big investments, big scenes, big lineups, big returns and so on.

There is no specific authoritative standard for the concept of blockbuster, and there are many opinions. To sum up, there are three necessary conditions (three highs and one long):

1, with high gold content, including high investment and high box office, is hardly a blockbuster without the support of high investment and high box office.

2, high technology, need to invest a lot of computer production and technical equipment.

3, high cultural taste, those vulgar and obscene movies will never be called blockbusters.

4. The duration of a blockbuster is not less than 100 minutes, and the blockbuster with more than two hours is the most common.

The historical origin of blockbusters:

1994 used the word "blockbuster" for the first time. At that time, the Film Bureau of the Ministry of Radio, Film and Television of China approved Wu, the manager of China Film Company, to import first-class foreign films in the form of separate accounts, and proposed that China TV Drama Group could import 10 films "basically reflecting the outstanding achievements of world civilization and showing the achievements of contemporary films" every year (instead, only 20 films were imported from the United States every year, excluding other countries and regions).

Every year, 10 movies imported are often big Hollywood productions with high budgets, so they are also called 10 imported "blockbusters". In the following years, although the number of imported blockbusters was small, the box office accounted for more than 50% of the box office in Chinese mainland, and foreign producers, domestic distributors, China TV Theater Troupe and domestic cinemas showing movies all made huge profits from it.
