1. Cured meat
After the light snow festival, the temperature dropped sharply and the weather became dry. As the saying goes, "The winter wax is preserved by wind, and it is stored to protect against winter", which means that the light snow solar term after beginning of winter is a good time to process bacon. Therefore, at this time of year, many rural families begin to cook bacon and save it for the winter.
Second, eat Ciba
In the south, it has always been the custom to eat Ciba in October of the lunar calendar. Ciba is a kind of food made by steaming and mashing glutinous rice, which is a popular food in some areas of southern China. In ancient times, Ciba was a traditional festival sacrifice in southern China, which was originally used by farmers to offer sacrifices to the cow god. As the saying goes, "In October, Ciba Lulu burned" refers to the sacrificial events.
Third, drying dried fish
During the light snow season, fishermen in the seaside of central and southern Taiwan Province will start drying dried fish and storing dry food, because mullet and swordfish will come to Taiwan Province around the light snow. As the Taiwan Province proverb goes, beans in October are too fat to see their heads, which means that they can catch "bean fish" in October of the lunar calendar.
Fourth, eating sliced soup
Eating sliced soup is a custom of Tujia people. Before and after the light snow, Tujia people began the annual folk activity of "killing pigs in the new year". In this folk activity, people used the first-class fresh pork with hot air and carefully cooked delicious food, which was called "planing soup", adding a warm atmosphere to the cold winter.
5. Pickling pickles
There is a saying in old Nanjing that "light snow pickles, heavy snow pickles", which means that light snow pickles in solar terms, but when it comes to heavy snow, it is necessary to pickle. In the past, due to various conditions, there were few fresh vegetables in winter, and the price was expensive. Therefore, rural people used to pickle vegetables before and after the light snow, and they relied on these pickled foods for meals in the long and cold winter.
