1. Morphological characteristics of antlers

Antlers refer to the ossified old horns of sika deer or red deer.

Sika deer horns are 30-50 cm long, with three or four branches, which are symmetrical left and right. The main branch is slightly bent backward, with a diameter of 2.5-4.5 cm. The branches extend to both sides, and the ends of the branches are tapered.

There is a disc-shaped protrusion at the base, commonly known as "pearl disc". The surface is yellow-brown, the branches are light yellow-white, hairless and shiny. It has a sunken protrusion, commonly known as "bone nail", with longitudinal edges. Hard, white around the section, gray in the middle, with fine honeycomb holes.

Red deer is a 3-6-fold branch with a total length of 50-60cm and a diameter of 3-6cm. The surface is grayish brown or grayish yellow, the bone nails are not obvious, there are precious spherical disks at the base, the bone is hard, the white layer on the periphery of the section is extremely thick, the center is mostly black, some of them are reddish, and there are thick honeycomb holes.

Second, the collection of antlers

The collected antlers are divided into two types: cutting angle and retreating angle.

Horning: During the period from 10 to February of the following year, the deer were culled, even the skull was cut off, the residual meat was removed, washed and air-dried.

Horning: Also known as "horn shedding" or "horn shedding", it is the natural shedding of stag (reindeer including doe) during horn changing, so it has no skull and is mostly harvested in March-April.

Third, the processing of antlers

According to medical requirements, velvet antler can be processed into antler glue, antler cream, antler pieces and antler powder.

(1) Processing of Colla cornus Cervi: Wash the antler, saw it into small pieces with the length of 9- 10 cm, or slice it and crush it, soak it in water for 3-4 days, remove the blood from it, and then soak it in water. After boiling for 24 hours, filter the extract (called head juice) with a 80- 100 mesh sieve. Add a little alum to the filtrate, precipitate for several hours, pour out the supernatant, combine the residue with cornu Cervi, and extract for three times in the same way until the cornu Cervi is fragile. The four extracts were combined and concentrated into gel, put into a gel tank with a thickness of about 2.7cm and a thickness of12 hours, and then cut into films. Lay the film flat on the curtain and dry it in the shade, and pour the curtain every 1 day for about 2 weeks. This product is generally brownish red or brownish yellow translucent colloid.

(2) Processing of cornu Cervi cream: drying crisp residue left after extracting cornu Cervi glue to obtain cornu Cervi cream.

(3) Processing of antlers and antlers powder: sawing antlers into long sections, soaking in hot water, steam softening, taking out sliced antlers, drying in the sun, and grinding the sliced antlers into fine powder, namely antlers powder.

Fourth, the quality identification of antlers

Sika deer has hard cutin, all bone nails, shiny top, no moth-eaten, no peculiar smell and slightly salty. Horses' antlers are strong and firm, and they are better without decay.
