What is African swine fever?
African swine fever is an acute, febrile, highly contactable infectious disease of pigs caused by infection with the African swine fever virus, which is a legally-reported animal disease by the World Organization for Animal Health and is classified as a class I animal disease in China.

Can African swine fever infect people?
African swine fever is not a human or animal **** disease and the virus does not infect people. Pigs are the only natural host, and animals other than domestic pigs and wild boars are generally not infected with the virus, and it is even more unlikely that people will be infected with African swine fever from consuming pork.

How is African swine fever transmitted?
The soft tick is the natural host and main vector of African swine fever virus. Sick pigs contain high titers of the virus in all tissues and organs, body fluids, secretions and excretions. Contaminated feed, water, utensils, slop, staff and their clothing, and contaminated air can become the source of infection, and can be transmitted through the mouth and upper respiratory tract. Pigs are mainly infected through contact with the virus or contaminants or the bite of an infected tick, with an incubation period of 15 days.

What is the danger of African swine fever?
African swine fever has no specific drug, no vaccine, pigs once the disease, the disease mortality rate of up to 100%, will cause huge economic losses and social impact, seriously jeopardize the global pig industry. So once found must be culled and harmless disposal.

Is pork still edible?
You can eat it. African swine fever virus does not survive high temperatures, i.e. cooking and heating (temperatures up to 55°C for 30 minutes or 60°C for 10 minutes) kills the virus. In addition, most disinfectants and fat solvents are effective in killing this virus.
