The giant panda is endemic to China, and its main existing habitats are mountainous areas in China, Sichuan, Shaanxi and Gansu.
Giant panda: the only mammal belonging to Carnivora, Xiong Ke, Ailuropoinae and Ailuropoda, with a head and body length of1.2-1.8m and a tail length of10-12cm.
It weighs 80-120kg, and the heaviest weight can reach180kg. Its body color is black and white. It has round cheeks, big dark circles, chubby body, iconic walking style with eight characters inside, and claws as sharp as scalpels. Is one of the cutest animals in the world.
The giant panda has lived on the earth for at least 8 million years, and is known as the "living fossil" and the "national treasure of China". It is the image ambassador of the World Wide Fund for Nature and the flagship species of biodiversity protection in the world.
According to the third national wild panda population survey, there are less than 1600 wild pandas in the world, which belong to the first-class protected animals in China. By the end of 20 1 1 year1month, the number of giant pandas in captivity in China was 333.
Giant pandas eat meat at first. After evolution, 99% of their food is bamboo, but their teeth and digestive tract remain intact and are still classified as carnivores, which is as dangerous as other bear species when they are angry. The life span of giant pandas in the wild is 18-20 years old, and they can be over 30 years old in captivity.
As of 20 18 1 1 month, the number of captive giant pandas has reached a new high, reaching 548 in the world.
Extended data:
The distribution area of giant pandas is already quite narrow. In fact, its distribution location is limited to the southern slope of Qinling Mountain in Shaanxi, China, Minshan Mountain at the junction of Gansu and Sichuan, Qionglai Mountain, Daxiangling Mountain, Xiaoxiangling Mountain and Big and Small Liangshan Mountain in Sichuan, and it lives in the deciduous broad-leaved forest and the mountain bamboo forest in subalpine coniferous forest belt at an altitude of 1400-3600 meters, with a total area of 2950.
Each area is divided into smaller units due to human factors such as mountains, rivers or highways, cultivated land, etc., so the actual habitat area is less than 20% of the total area, only about 5900 square kilometers.
There are 30 small populations in China, with a total population of about 1000. Except for Wolong in Sichuan, each population has less than 50, and some have only 10. Fragmented habitats and isolated living conditions are very unfavorable for giant pandas' reproduction and resistance to natural disasters.
