Xiangxi is located in the northwest of Hunan Province, bordering Sangzhi County and Yongding County in Zhangjiajie City in the northeast, Yuanling County, Chenxi County and Mayang Miao Autonomous County in Huaihua City in the southeast, Songtao Miao Autonomous County in Tongren District of Guizhou Province in the southwest, and Xiushan Tujia and Miao Autonomous County in Qianjiang Development Zone of Chongqing City in the west.
Xiangxi Autonomous Prefecture is located at the junction of the northeast side of Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau and the southwest end of western Hubei Mountains. Wuling Mountain runs through the whole territory obliquely from northeast to southwest, and its terrain is low in the southeast and high in the northwest, belonging to the eastern edge of the second ladder that gradually descends from west to east in China. Animal and plant resources in Xiangxi
Xiangxi Prefecture is a natural treasure house of wildlife resources and a gene bank for biological research. Metasequoia glyptostroboides, Davidia involucrata, Ginkgo biloba and Taxus chinensis in relict plant. Taxus chinensis var. mairei, Burroughs, Liriodendron chinense and fragrant fruit trees are preserved in Xiangxi. There are 985 species of medicinal plants in western Hunan, among which Eucommia ulmoides, Ginkgo biloba, Gastrodia elata, Camphor, Dioscorea zingiberensis, etc. 19 are precious medicinal materials under state protection.
There are 383 species of ornamental plants in Xiangxi, belonging to 9 1 family and 2 16 genus. Xiangxi is an important producing area of tung oil tree, camellia oleifera, raw lacquer and Chinese herbal medicine in China. There are many kinds of wild animals, which belong to 20 1 species protected by the state and provincial governments. Among them, one kind of rare animals is clouded leopard, leopard, white crane and white-necked pheasant, and the other is macaque, otter and giant salamander.
