Lotus root was not harvested that year, will it grow next year?
Lotus is a prolific plant: shower heads, lotus seeds and lotus roots are all delicious dishes. The biggest feature of planting lotus root is that it can grow all year round. After digging in the first year, it is not necessary to plant it in the second year.
Therefore, lotus roots will not be harvested for one year, but will grow in the second year. Under normal circumstances, the lotus root may not rot if it is not dug for several years. Generally speaking, as long as winter is not rotten, continuous and flooded, lotus roots growing in mud will germinate and continue to grow when the climate and temperature are suitable in the next spring.
In addition, seeds can be harvested in the same year, but digging in the same year is not recommended. It's best to dig a little after two years. Lotus root will not rot if it is not dug. Next spring, lotus leaves and buds will sprout from internodes, and then new lotus roots will grow.
Lotus roots can be planted continuously for several years.
Generally, lotus roots should be replanted or planted in different places after 4-5 years of continuous cropping. Otherwise, the lotus root will decline due to the accumulation of pests and diseases, soil nutrient imbalance and autotoxicity, and the yield will drop sharply.
However, it should be noted that lotus root also has strict requirements on the environment. Although it can be planted for several years, lotus root growers still need to do a good job in field management according to the actual needs of lotus root to fully improve the efficiency and yield of lotus root planting.
Growth process and characteristics of lotus root
Lotus root is a perennial perennial plant with a growth cycle of one year, which needs to go through five different development stages: germination stage, maturity stage, flower and fruit stage, lotus root stage and dormancy stage.
Lotus root is different from other plants, it needs to bear lotus root after the final flowering, and the vegetative growth will run through the whole growth and development process. In five growth cycles, lotus root has different requirements on environment and temperature.
① Germination stage
The germination period is the best time for planting lotus roots, and the temperature needs to rise above 15 degrees before germination can begin. In terms of temperature, lotus roots need to germinate at 15 degrees and grow at 28-30 degrees.
② Seedling stage
The seedling stage generally begins in mid-May, during which the leaves of lotus root will continue to increase. And it will form a huge nutritional system in a short time.
③ Full flowering period
The flowering period of lotus root will last for two months in the flower and fruit period, and July-August is the full flowering period. In terms of soil quality, it is necessary to ensure that organic matter is rich and it needs to survive in cohesive soil with deep plough layer.
④ Lotus-bearing period
The fruit setting period of lotus root is usually in late July or early August, which is an important stage of lotus root fruit growth. In terms of water content, lotus root requires high water content and needs to grow and develop in a water depth of about 100 cm.
⑤ dormant period
Dormancy is the last stage of the growth cycle. After the plants on the ground wither, the new fruit of lotus root will hibernate underground.
