1930, Wu Mingzhu was born in Wuhan, a thoroughfare of nine provinces. Like countless scholars in that era, Wu Mingzhu also had great ambition to do practical things for the people.
Time turns to 1950, and everything is a new beginning. This year, Southwest Agricultural College is pregnant with two later national academicians, one is Yuan Longping and the other is Wu Mingzhu.
At the end of 1962, Wu Mingzhu and his colleagues collected all the local melon varieties in Turpan, and systematically bred varieties such as red crisp, fragrant pear yellow and small green peel, among which red crisp was the best quality and sold to the Hong Kong market for 30 years.

Like a migratory bird, she stayed in Hainan in autumn and winter, returned to Xinjiang in spring and summer, and conducted breeding research year after year. 1995, the melons and watermelons selected by Wu Mingzhu led the team realized three seasons a year.
During this period, her "8424 (Zaojia)" became the main variety of early-maturing and high-quality watermelon in Jiangsu and Zhejiang provinces, and gradually expanded to northern provinces.
Wu Mingzhu has lived in Xinjiang for more than half a century since she entered Xinjiang in 1955. From the southern water town to the vast desert, Wu Mingzhu has experienced many tests of life. In her mind, except melon, everything is very light: 1983, finally looking forward to the first evaluation of professional titles. She is the most qualified to declare, but she did not submit the application materials. When someone asked her why, she said indifferently that she was just in time to pollinate the melon.
