The origin of zongzi:
Zongzi is a traditional China food, which is usually eaten during the Dragon Boat Festival. There are many theories about the origin of Zongzi, among which the most popular one is related to Qu Yuan.
It is said that in 278 BC, Qu Yuan, the minister of Chu State, was exiled to the bank of the Miluo River. Deeply aware of the national crisis, Qu Yuan wrote famous chapters such as Li Sao, expressing his thoughts and concerns for the country and people. Soon, Qu Yuan drowned himself in the Miluo River to show his loyalty and love for the country and the nation.
In order to prevent fish and shrimp from biting Qu Yuan, local residents put glutinous rice, beans, meat and other ingredients into bamboo leaves and threw them into the river for memorial and commemoration. Later, this kind of packaged food gradually evolved into the present zongzi.
Besides the statement related to Qu Yuan, there are other different statements. For example, Zongzi originated from the ancient dragon boat race, and it is necessary to bring food during the dragon boat race, and Zongzi is one of them. There is also a saying that Zongzi originated from ancient military provisions and is a convenient food for soldiers to eat in the army.
No matter what the origin of Zongzi is, it is an important part of China traditional culture and one of the representatives of China people's colorful food culture.
