Snails grow up eating plankton, microorganisms, and algae.

The snail is generally referred to as the square ringed snail, inhabiting river channels, lakes, ponds and marshes, reservoirs and paddy fields. Prefer soft substrate, bait rich, fresh water quality of the waters, especially like to cluster in the place where there is a slight flow of water.

The snail has a mixed diet, feeding on young aquatic plants, bacteria and organic debris, and feeding at night. The square ringed snail is oviparous, and the embryonic development of the fertilized egg to the development of the young snail takes place in the female snail. It is distributed in eastern China, the Korean Peninsula and Japan; it may also be found in northern Vietnam.
