Eight fingers. Chickens have two claws, each with four fingers, which are located at the base of each of its two feet. These fingers can be divided into two main sections; the three front toes are larger and curved and are used for walking, grasping and digging; the back one is smaller and less flexible than the first three and is used mainly for support and balance. This construction helps chickens to walk on the ground and also enables them to catch food or dig for food such as insects.
