Chaozhou belongs to Guangdong Province.
Chaosuzhou, abbreviated as Chao, is a prefecture-level city under the jurisdiction of Guangdong Province, located in the eastern part of Guangdong Province, at the middle and lower reaches of the Han River. It borders Zhangzhou City in Fujian Province to the east, and Jieyang City, Shantou City, and Meizhou City in eastern Guangdong Province to the west, south, and north, respectively, with a total area of 3,613.9 square kilometers under its jurisdiction, of which 533 square kilometers are sea area, and 136 kilometers of coastline. As of October 2022, Chaozhou City has two districts and one county under its jurisdiction.
In 2021, the resident population was 2,574,600, with an urban population of 1,668,300 and an urbanization rate of 64.8%. Chaozhou is an ancient city of culture with a history of more than 1,600 years, and Chaoshan culture is an important part of Lingnan culture and an important branch of Chinese culture.
Marine Resources
Chaoshan City has a wide sea area with 25 islands (reefs), and the larger bays are Zhelin Bay, Gaoshawan and Dacheng Bay. The water area of Zhelin Bay is 68 square kilometers, surrounded by water from east to west and north to north, forming a natural harbor due to calm winds, quiet waves, deep water and little siltation. Shallow sea mudflat area of 799,000 acres, can be utilized in 639,000 acres, very promising development. Marine aquatic resources in Chaozhou mainly include lobster, shrimp, groupers, moray eel, oysters, seahorses, arkshells, nori, etc. Freshwater aquatic resources mainly include grass carp, bighead carp, bighead carp, carp, crucian carp and so on.
