Kanas Lake is a rare natural area with the characteristics of European ecosystem in China. There are 798 species of plants in the nature reserve, including 30 rare plants, 39 animals, 7 birds11,8 fishes belonging to 5 families, more than 300 insects and 4 amphibians and reptiles, among which 5 are national first-class protected animals and 2 are1. There is also a rare fish known as "Lake Monster"-"Dahongyu" in Kanas Lake.

According to the fishing conditions of the two expeditions in 1980 and 1985, there are roughly 8 kinds of fish in Kanas Lake. Except for the small herbivorous fish, experts focus on the following four kinds of fish, which are haddock, arctic fennel, salmon, and hucho. Through repeated comparison and research, everyone unanimously focuses on hucho.
