First of all, let's introduce the main idea of this movie: a successful sports agent was fired by his boss for writing an article exposing the inside story of his industry because of his conscience. Unwilling to fail, he embarked on a difficult road of starting a business with his secret love for his secretary and an out-of-date star, and finally succeeded after thousands of difficulties.
It sounds like an old-fashioned inspirational film, but the excellent cooperation between the director and the actors has given this bottle of old wine a new taste.
Brother Tang changed his cool image in this film and showed people the emotional course of a frustrated middle-aged man. Another dazzling star is Cuba Godin, the actor who has been nagging about the past. Although the star in the film is a grumpy guy who likes to show off and talk nonsense, he has screwed up the Tang Ge incident several times, but at the same time, he has a lovely side, such as keeping his promise, no matter how much he laughs and accuses Tang Ge, no matter how difficult Tang Ge is, he never abandoned the agent and voted for a new owner from beginning to end. Little Cuba handled this role well in this film, and many details can be reflected with one look and one action, which cannot be expressed in words. Therefore, he won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor with this film, which was very successful both in and out of the play.
It should be said that the actors in this film are very good, and even the mentor of Brother Tang, who appears from time to time, is so methodical that the main idea of the film is summarized in one or two sentences.
The film also reveals the ugliness of human nature from one side. When Tang Ge left his original company and asked his former subordinates to start a business with him, those guys who used to be his brothers didn't respond. Finally, Tang Ge left sadly with a goldfish and an accountant who admired him. There is another wonderful remark. None of his former clients want to follow him for their own benefit: one of Tang Ge's former clients cried to Tang Ge on the phone that he could no longer cooperate with him, but when he answered another phone call, he immediately changed into a cheerful voice. Tang Ge immediately replied and cried. There are many scenes depicting people's hypocrisy like this, so I won't give them one by one. So this movie also has some black humor style.
Apart from satire, the film's handling of love scenes is also quite sensational. For example, when Tom Cruise first entered the heroine's house, she happened to meet a large group of housewives who gathered around and accused the men of being wrong. Tom Cruise asked them, "I'm looking for XXX." The same scene reappears at the end of the film, when Tom Cruise has a deep affection for the heroine. When Tom Cruise came to see her again, he brought a kind of love that he couldn't give up. So when he came up, he just said, "I'm here to see my wife." He has clearly stated his purpose, and the next monologue is quite wonderful. The touched heroine couldn't help telling the truth: "You don't have to say so much, in fact, you conquered me as early as the door!"
Of course, the protagonist of this movie is not a perfect person. Before writing the inside story, Brother Tang was a businessman who just wanted to make money. He doesn't care about his customers (athletes) like a friend, but only cares about squeezing more profits from them. After being fired, I only thought about how to regain my glory and how to get back at my boss and opponents. I don't care at all about the feelings of the accountant who has a crush on me. I only regard her home as a safe haven when I am frustrated, and my concern for the health of out-of-date stars is only for commercial interests. But with their contact and conversation, I gradually discovered the virtue of ordinary people, realized the true meaning of life, realized that sincere communication between people is the most important thing, and learned tolerance.
In that fateful game, little Cuba was hit hard and fell down. Brother Tang rushed into the stadium like crazy to see his injury. At this time, the relationship between Big Brother Tang and Little Cuba is no longer the concern between the boss and employees, but the concern between real friends. This can't be explained by "you are my only client".
Regarding the ending of this film, some people may think it is too perfect and fall into the stereotype that good people get what they deserve. However, I think it may be cruel not to do so. Is it necessary for the protagonist to work hard and treat others sincerely, and finally sit in a wheelchair with the dog? If that's good, I'd rather not, because although this film exposes many selfish and greedy aspects of human nature, it is more about carrying forward the indomitable spirit in the face of setbacks and realizing self-worth with an optimistic outlook on life. Therefore, such an ending is necessary. Besides, what else can you ask for for a Hollywood movie?
