A brief introduction to the origin of Qingming Festival Legend:
During the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period, Chong'er, a prince of the Jin State, fled into exile to avoid disaster. During this period, Chong'er experienced many hardships and originally followed him. All his ministers left him and went their separate ways. Only a few people still followed him. One of them was named Jie Zitui.
One time Chong'er fainted from hunger. In order to save him, Jie Zitui cut a piece of meat from his own thigh and cooked it for Chong'er to eat.
Later Chong'er became the king of Jin - Duke Wen of Jin. After he became the king, he generously rewarded those who shared the same hardships with him, but he forgot about Jie Zitui.
Jie Zitui was not a person who was greedy for fame and wealth. He and his old mother retired to Mianshan. Later, Duke Wen of Jin accidentally remembered this incident and felt very guilty, so he asked people to go to Mianshan to invite Jie Zitui down the mountain. But he didn't come down, so Jin Wengong went to invite him in person, but the door of Jie Zitui's house was locked, and he carried his old mother to Mianshan Mountain. So someone came up with an idea and asked people to prevent fire, and forced Jie Zitui to come down the mountain.
So Jin Wengong ordered the mountain to be burned. Later, Jie Zitui and his old mother were found burned to death under a willow tree.
Jin Wen Gong found a letter written by Jie Zitui to himself in a hole under a willow tree to advise Jin Wen Gong to be diligent in government.
In order to commemorate Jie Zitui, Duke Wen of Jin ordered that Mianshan be changed to Jieshan, and ordered that no fire should be lit for cooking on this day every year.
The next year, Duke Wen of Jin came to worship and saw the willow tree come back to life. After worshiping, Duke Wen of Jin named the old willow tree Qingming Willow and designated this day as Qingming Festival.
