Can you make homemade sodas with soda ash, citric acid, etc. successfully?

I don't think so! To make homemade soda:

Buy soda. Go to the grocery store and purchase a liter or two of plain soda. Look for sodas with no sugar or other additives. All you need is plain carbonated water.

Choose a sweetener. You can use regular table sugar or get different flavors with honey, agave nectar or syrup. Choose a sweetener that matches the flavor of the soda you're making.

Make the soda. Pour carbonated water into a large pitcher or large glass. Add the flavor of your choice, whether it's freshly squeezed fruit, chocolate candy sauce, or cream and vanilla. You can add some sweetener and stir the whole mix with a large spoon. You can drink it immediately, or store it in a bottle with a tight-fitting lid for later.

Pour the soda into a clear glass and put in a straw to show off its pretty color and bubbles. Homemade sodas make great party drinks.
