route of transmission
Cat plague is highly contagious, mainly through contact. Direct contact with saliva, vomit and excrement of infected cats may be infected, including contact with objects contaminated by viruses. For kittens who have not been fully vaccinated or have not had time to be vaccinated, they are more susceptible to cat plague than adult cats, especially kittens who are 3-5 months old.
Cat plague is difficult not only because of its strong transmission ability, but also because the cat plague virus has a tenacious vitality that is dwarfed by other viruses. Cat plague virus can survive for several months in outdoor environment, and even for more than one year if the environment is suitable. In addition to a long-lasting survival time, the cat plague virus has a strong tolerance to harsh environment. It can still survive for half an hour in a high temperature environment above 56℃, but it can survive for a long time in a low temperature environment. In cat excrement, the virus can even survive for 5- 10 months, and ordinary alcohol and iodophor have no effect on cat plague virus. However, when the temperature is as high as 90℃ and lasts for more than 10 minutes, the cat plague virus can be killed, so it can be disinfected and inactivated by boiling infected articles.
This viability and spreading power make the cat plague virus almost "ubiquitous", and the shovel officer who is used to kicking stray cats outside can't tell when he was unlucky enough to bring the virus home. Clothes and shoes, including hands, are all possible pollution targets. Therefore, the shovel officers who keep cats at home must develop good cat licking and hygiene habits. Fortunately, the cat plague virus will not spread through the air, otherwise it cannot be prevented.
symptom
After infection, kittens will have fever, loss of appetite, mental decline, and then frequent vomiting and severe dehydration. Some cats may have abdominal pain, diarrhea and even bloody stools like tomato juice. If unvaccinated kittens develop viral enteritis, the mortality rate will be as high as 90%. If pregnant female cats are infected with cat plague, it will cause stillbirth and miscarriage, and newborn kittens will also have neurological symptoms.
