1. Rinse the rice under cold water. Place the brown rice in a fine mesh strainer and give it a quick rinse under cold water for about 30 seconds.
2. Soak the rice in hot water for 45 minutes. Transfer the brown rice to a rice cooker and add 3 cups of water. Let it soak and soften for at least 45 minutes. You can soak the rice for up to 3 hours if needed, but 45 minutes is usually enough. If you prefer a more flavorful rice, you can replace some or all of the water with chicken or vegetable broth. Replace an equal amount of broth with water. Soaking is beneficial because it reduces the stickiness of the rice. It also helps the rice swell into slender grains.
3. Quickly stir the rice in the rice cooker with a rice spoon to distribute the salt more evenly.
4. Turn on the rice cooker and set the timer, please set the timer to 30 minutes. The rice cooker must remain covered during the cooking process. Check the rice after the first 30 minutes. If the grains still look tough and the contents of the pot are still somewhat thick, cover and set the timer for another 10 minutes.
