Cucumber is an annual trailing or climbing herb of the Cucurbitaceae family. The stem and branches are elongated, furrowed, and covered with white hispid hairs. The tendrils are fine. Petiole slightly rough, hispid; leaf blade broadly ovate-cordate, membranous, lobes triangular, dentate.
Universally cultivated throughout China, and in many areas cultivated in greenhouses or plastic greenhouses; now widely grown in temperate and tropical regions. Cucumber is one of the main summer vegetables throughout China. The stems and vines are used medicinally, as anti-inflammatory, expectorant and antispasmodic.
