The dried rhizome, ovoid or fusiform, is about 3 to 5 centimeters long and 1 to 3 centimeters in diameter. The outer skin is grayish-yellow to brownish-yellow, slightly wrinkled, with ring-shaped nodes and traces of fibrous roots on the nodes. The texture is solid and heavy, extremely difficult to break, the broken surface is gray-brown to yellow-green, horny, glossy, and has a yellow-white ring and white sinewy dots. Slightly aromatic, slightly bitter and pungent flavor. A uniform, solid, gray-brown section is preferred.
Mainly produced in Guangxi, Sichuan. In addition, Fujian, Guangdong, Zhejiang, Yunnan and other places are also produced.
