Do you know the origin of batik?
The ancient song Batik Song about the origin of batik is sung in many places of Miao nationality in China. Legend has it that a long time ago, there was a clever and beautiful Miao girl who was not satisfied with the single color of her clothes and wanted to dye all kinds of beautiful flower patterns on her skirt. But at that time, the craft could only be painted by hand one by one, and she couldn't think of a good way at the moment, so she was unhappy. One day, the girl was stunned by the flowers all over the mountain and fell asleep in meditation. In the dim light, a beautifully dressed flower fairy took her to Baihua Garden, where birds were singing and flowers were singing and butterflies were dancing. The girl was so fascinated that she didn't even know that bees were crawling all over her clothes. When she woke up, the bees in the flowers left spots of honey juice and beeswax on her clothes. She had to put the skirt in an indigo dyeing bucket and try to dye it again to cover the wax marks. After dyeing, the girl put the clothes in boiling water to remove the floating color. When she took out her clothes, a miracle appeared: beautiful white flowers appeared on the dark blue clothes dyed with beeswax! The girl had a brainwave and immediately found the beeswax. After heating and boiling, she drew a wax figure on the white cloth with branches, and then dyed it in indigo dye solution. Finally, she melted the beeswax with boiling water, and various white flowers appeared on the cloth. The girl is singing folk songs happily, and people come to watch her dyed skirt, learn the skills of drawing flowers from her, and dye all kinds of fabrics in this way. Since then, batik technology has spread among Miao and their brothers, such as Buyi and Yao.
