Editor's note
We can't help but weep at the phrase "Wuhan, Dongfeng, we're coming home" - a moment we've been looking forward to for too long, too long.
Today--April 8, 2020--Wuhan, Hubei Province, is officially unsealed. From 00:00, Wuhan City lifted the control measures of the passageway away from Han and Ezhou, and resumed external traffic in an orderly manner. The travelers who are far away from home packed their bags early, ready to leave the home that has been holding fast for many days, and run to the faraway places of work or life. Sometime in the future, they will return better.
The light at the end of the tunnel finally came to Wuhan today. Central China's largest city has adjusted its breathing to reintegrate itself into the world, to reintegrate itself into the same pulsation as the rest of the world - arriving at this moment took the city a full 76 days.
During those past days of world attention, the various divisions of Wuhan-based Dongfeng Motor, like Dongfeng Honda, Shenlong Automobile, Dongfeng Passenger Vehicles and other automotive OEMs, shut down work and production, with employees sticking to their homes until late March, when they returned to normalcy one by one in stages.
Today, open a photo of the resumption of work and production of Dongfeng's various divisions, go to work into the company, work in the workshop, lunch, meetings, and take the car to and from their hometowns and places of work....... The images that were so familiar in the past seem invaluable today. We never thought that these past seemingly ordinary picture, in one day will feel is so hard to come by, so much to people's hearts and minds, so much to make people mixed feelings of sadness and joy.
Today, we are still hanging on to the employees of Dongfeng Motor's various manufacturers. How do they spend the days and nights of the sealed city? What kind of journey did they go through? What is the situation of their resumption of work and production ......
In order to commemorate today's special moment, and also in response to everyone's concern for the people of Dongfeng, Help Ning Studio hereby publishes excerpts of an essay by a Dongfeng employee, and a selection of on-site photographs from the various business divisions of Dongfeng Wuhan.
These words and pictures are simple and straight from the heart, reminding us that we should always remember the special days of the past and cherish the beauty of everything in front of us.
Hugs to you, DFLers.
Your dedication has guarded us and China.
Even though I don't know you, I want to thank you.
Welcome back, our Wuhan, our Dongfeng.
Partial resumption of work, March 27, 2020
8:10?
I've been walking this road from my home to my company for more than a decade, and not once have I had such a mixed bag of emotions as I do today.
This is the 65th day that Wuhan has been closed. With the "green code" and proof of resumption of work, the city has been pressed to pause, and finally began to slowly recover. There are plenty of private cars on the road, but not many passengers in the buses, most of whom wear masks and goggles and twist their faces out the window.
What were they thinking?
They were wondering if the young man with glasses carrying a black computer bag on this bus more than 60 days ago was okay. Is it that they will meet that sweet-smiling girl again? It is thinking, that speak a mouthful of Wuhan local language, always early in the morning to buy a cart full of vegetables mother-in-law, she is still alive?
Wuhan people eat breakfast called "over the morning", I think this "over the" word is a very vivid interpretation of the Wuhan people straight, spicy, sharp features. In the past, people could be seen everywhere walking and waiting for the car, and even shaking their bicycles and riding their bicycles. Today, perhaps because the community is still closed, perhaps because many Wuhan people are still out of town, the roadside stores are basically not open, there are few people on the sidewalks, and the occasional few are wearing masks and burying their heads and walking quickly.
I miss the steam curling up from the baozi stores in the past, the crowds queuing up in front of the hot noodle stalls, and the water splashing around in the car wash stores....... When will those colorful days of the past come back? The evening cherry blossoms on the roadside are open.
8:30?
At the door of the company, I was greeted by several security guards in protective clothing. I lowered the window and took my forehead and wrist temperature. The guards let me through.
8:40?
Before entering the office, I needed to take my forehead temperature again. Everyone passes slowly through the infrared thermometer in an organized line, 1 meter apart.
8:45?
Finally, we're back in the office after a 65-day absence. Colleagues met, everyone wore masks and goggles, couldn't see much of each other, there was none of the excitement and joy in their voices that used to come after a vacation, and there was very little conversation. Basically, they just nodded and said hello.
I was lost in thought for a moment.
Working in this business for more than ten years. For more than a decade, on the first day of work after the Spring Festival vacation, the whole office was filled with a joyful atmosphere. The first thing we say when we meet is "good new year", and then we wait for the leaders to give out the gifts with a lot of laughter. Some of them are talking about whether to go on a family trip this Spring Festival or to go back to their hometowns to reunite with their loved ones.
At the moment, it is perhaps the greatest relief to see colleagues who have been with us all along appearing in front of us safe and sound.......
9:00?
Entering the production plant, we measured the temperature, signed the register and cleaned our hands.
The workshop is in good order, everyone is wearing masks, and the operators on duty don't look much different than they did before the epidemic. In front of each station are colleagues who are working, and no one is chatting or talking.
Thanks to the company, which not long ago specialized in coordinating government resources and arranging the smooth return of foreign employees to Han.
April 6, 2020, all hands on deck
8:10?
All hands on deck today! There were significantly more cars on the road, and there was actually a bit of a traffic jam under the Dongfeng Viaduct! I had a little flutter inside, and actually felt kindred spirits about the traffic jam for the first time!
8:30?
The immunization requirements are even higher with full attendance compared to the partial return to work a week ago. People and vehicles are separated into the company, and everyone's temperature is taken without fail.
8:35?
Entering the work area, according to the requirements of the epidemic prevention, we non-production personnel seating rearrangement, front and back left and right can not be occupied! No one can be occupied! Some employees were evacuated to the conference room, training room and other areas of the office. Everyone must implement the anti-epidemic measures set forth by the company in place.
9:00?
Getting to work. Our department is a "big meeting", from the beginning of the epidemic to the present, nail online meeting has become a common way of working. Everyone is sitting at their workstations, wearing headphones, staring at the screen, and concentrating.
(Here, I would also like to call out: meetings are sometimes the least effective way to decide things, especially meetings that don't produce results. I hope everyone will minimize meetings or shorten them to be more efficient during the epidemic.)
11:30?
According to the company's epidemic prevention requirements and deployment, the noon meal arrangement was changed to dining with boxed lunches in a designated area, and empty meeting rooms, training rooms and even open outdoor areas became dining areas.
From getting lunch to finishing the meal, it is a one-way dynamic marching route. Each person is spaced 1.5 meters apart, absolutely no chatting with each other, can not deviate from the line of march. Before and after the meal, there is a person in charge of measuring body temperature and hand sterilization.
13:30?
The afternoon's work began, continue to nail, continue to do PPT ......
17:30?
After the end of each day, the work area to do a regular disinfection, everyone must quickly leave the workstation.
Today is the first day of full production and full attendance. I was in a bit of a trance when I saw a succession of fully loaded transportation trucks coming out of the commercial vehicle transportation depot and intertwining with the off-duty traffic. The more than 60 days of production stoppage seems to be long and short, the more than 70 days of city closure seems to be long and short, and the traffic jam under the Dongfeng Elevated has started again ......
Walking out of the company, I saw that the spring on both sides of the road was getting stronger and stronger, and the takeaway riders and express delivery boys were wandering around in the traffic on their beloved little motorcycles. On the way to work, my favorite eel noodle store, Ho Kee, quietly opened half of the door at some point, and the owner was cleaning up inside and out. The tricolor lights at the entrance of the barber store are also spinning happily ......
Another day--April 8--Wuhan is going to "reboot! I believe that in the near future, Wuhan will be back to normal! At that time, you are welcome to come to Wuhan and "sip shrimp" with us! We Wuhan people, enough!
