Perennial herb, 50-80 cm tall. The stems are much branched. The single leaves are opposite; the leaves are membranous; ovate or broadly ovate, generally 2.5 to 5.5 cm long and 1 to 3 cm wide, with a sharp apex and a nearly heart-shaped base; the petiole is 5 to 10 mm long, sparsely pubescent, The upper leaves are often sessile or have very short stalks.
