Du's physician originated from Du Xingrang (1849— 1928) in Dujia Village, northwest of Fugou County, Henan Province in the late Qing Dynasty. Du Xing studied private schools in his early years, then became a Buddhist, converted to Zhongyue Shaolin Temple, met a hermit, and taught Du medical skills. Du Lizhi studied medicine. After returning to China, he familiarized himself with medical books such as Neijing and Materia Medica. After decades of clinical practice, he became a local famous doctor.
