Quanzhou Normal University is a first-class discipline construction university in Fujian Province, an implementation institution of the Ministry of Education’s Excellent Teacher Training Plan, and a project construction unit for master’s degree awarding and training units in Fujian Province from 2018 to 2020. The school was established in 2000 with the approval of the Ministry of Education. It was formed by the merger of Quanzhou Normal School founded in 1923, Nan'an Normal School in 1939, Quanzhou Education College in 1951 and Quanzhou Normal College in 1958.
