Recalling the scene that day, Wu Heyun said: "The secretary asked about the income, looked at the accommodation, and also asked how the chestnut banquet was going. The secretary was very satisfied and said it was very good."
Jianyan Village is a reservoir resettlement village with 467 households and 1,100 people, including 284 low-income households. Wu Heyun's family was originally one of them. In 2014, Jianyan Village began to create the characteristic folk custom of chestnut feast, and her family became a rural folk custom tourist. Now, guests all love to eat the chestnut snacks she made.
On April 22 this year, Jianyan Village held the Reservoir Immigration Style Culture Festival and Chestnut Banquet Food Festival. Guests who saw the news online came to hear the news. Wu Heyun was very busy that day, "Before Everything we cooked was sold out, so we stayed until 2 o’clock that night.”
Since the introduction of folk tourism and chestnut feasts, the number of tourists has increased significantly, and there are not enough dining tables. In the spring of this year, Wu Heyun specially moved 2 rooms out of 13 guest rooms and transformed them into restaurants. Wu Heyun's family's annual income also increased little by little, starting from 70,000 to 80,000 yuan, and reaching a maximum of 180,000 yuan to 180,000 yuan.
Wu Heyun’s family’s journey from poverty to prosperity is also a microcosm of the development of Jianyan Village in recent years.
In Jianyan Village, the average person in Jianyan Village has only 2 acres of land. Farming alone cannot escape poverty. Wang Shuping, the first secretary of the Jianyan Village Party branch, told reporters that chestnut trees are a specialty of the village, so they began to develop folk customs and launch chestnut banquets in 2014. Now there are more than 30 folk custom households that have opened, and 60 more are in the process of applying for licenses. Folk tourism has helped villagers increase their income. During the food festival in April, one family earned 18,000 yuan in three days. "Our idea is to have 178 poor households develop folk customs by 2018."
In addition to Chestnut Banquet, the village has also placed 137 people in employment, 60 of whom are working in the construction team, 12 are doing environmental sanitation and cleaning in the village, and 30 are working in the warehouse to protect water. The renovation project of dilapidated houses in Jianyan Village is handed over to the construction team, and the workers can receive more than 70,000 yuan by the end of the year.
Wang Shuping said that according to the plan, Jianyan Village will strive to achieve 150 households "off the low-income" by the end of this year, and it is expected to completely get rid of the low-income village by the end of next year.
