Interpretation of food
When I opened this book, I was shocked by this sentence: We are like "primitive people", "rich, but we are gradually starving to death". Mr. Hao Yiming, the author of Yuedu, talked about our "reading": "We are in an unprecedented era of rich reading in human history. As far as books are concerned, there are nearly 200,000 new Chinese books every year. More importantly, there are countless convenient foreign language books. As far as web pages are concerned, new web pages are born every minute in the world at an incalculable speed. Not to mention many forwarded emails and messages. "

But it is precisely in this era that people give up reading more and more, or limit our reading scope to a narrower and narrower range. The richness of reading environment is in sharp contrast with the poverty of actual reading. Behind reading poverty is mental poverty: this is the real anxiety. The reading crisis arises from this.

In Mr. Hao's view, the reason for the reading crisis is that we are "consciously or unconsciously confined within certain boundaries". What is the boundary? Mr. Hao said: "This boundary may be formed by the locking of textbooks and reference books in exam-oriented education, the influence of reading desire of China people and universities in the past ten years, and the realistic oppression after entering the society. It may be formed by some established impressions and usage habits of' network' and' books'. "

Therefore, in this book, Yue Reader, based on her years of publishing experience and long-term reading experience, analyzes the evolution of reading and the reading crisis facing today from a long-term historical perspective, examines the relationship between the Internet and reading, and shares many specific reading methods.

Yuan Mei, a scholar in Qing Dynasty, once said, "Books cannot be read unless borrowed." This is because of the borrowed books. We read them carefully because we are worried about returning them. And my own book is very convenient, so I can read it at any time, so I drag it. Things that are too easy to get are not cherished, and things that are easier to get are not valued. This is human nature and has nothing to do with the Internet.

In fact, we need to realize that the network will not only prevent reading, but also provide new possibilities for reading.

Human beings first know the world through observation, and then express it with sounds, body movements and images. Until the invention of writing. Words can make us know the world efficiently in an abstract way. But we rely too much on words, which also makes our ability to use other senses retrogress.

The emergence of the network enables us to immerse ourselves in multimedia environments such as words, images and sounds at the same time, so that all kinds of senses can work at the same time. Network makes reading more vivid and efficient.

Therefore, the invention of the Internet is actually helpful for reading.

The first type: staple food reading

Staple foods such as rice, noodles and steamed bread make us full and meet our living needs. Staple food reading refers to books that can provide guidance and solve practical problems for our career, life and psychology, and also meet the needs of survival.

Most of the books on methodology and self-improvement on the market now belong to this category. For example, reading like this is enough, how to ask questions, writing weapons taught by McKinsey and so on. The advantage of this kind of books is that they can directly solve the problems in our work and life, but the disadvantages also arise, that is, after solving the problems, we are easy to be satisfied and complacent, and take staple food reading as the whole of reading without reading other books.

But in fact, staple food reading has encountered problems in reality, and the reality is constantly changing. This leads to staple food reading is often only useful for some people for a period of time, and only solves immediate problems. Therefore, when we study, it is not enough to read only by staple food.

The second type: food reading.

After we meet the basic survival needs, people will naturally pursue more delicious and exquisite food. In reading, you will also read too much food.

If staple food reading is aimed at practical problems, then gourmet reading meets the ideological needs. Although food reading can't directly solve practical problems, it can often indirectly make us think about the essence of problems.

To appreciate food reading, it is natural to improve reading taste. This is the difficulty of food reading. Because many people have poor reading taste and can't tell the good from the bad, some inferior books under the banner of history, literature, philosophy and art are often very popular. And those real classics are rarely talked about.

The third kind: reading fruits and vegetables.

Vegetables and fruits can provide fiber and help digestion. Books about fruits and vegetables are books that can help us understand and digest other books.

Dictionaries, maps and encyclopedias are all fruits and vegetables to read.

The fourth kind: sweet food reading

We eat sweets not for satiety, nor for nutrition, but for delicious food. Britney Spears' reading doesn't solve practical problems, nor does it meet ideological needs. It provides entertainment and recreation. Popular novels such as comics, martial arts and reasoning all belong to this category.

This kind of book is hard to be elegant, so reading sweets is often considered a waste of time. But people are not machines after all, and always need to rest. Proper reading of sweets can be used as an adjustment to life.

Therefore, in our reading career, these four kinds of books are indispensable. But the allocation of time and resources should be based on your own goals. We will talk about this later.

After defining four different reading types, let's discuss how to improve reading efficiency.

First of all, we should distinguish between fragmentary reading time and overall reading time. Spare time can be used to read some short magazines, newspapers and browse the web, and try to set aside a whole time to read a whole book. Why? Because it often takes us some time to get into the reading state, if we read a book intermittently, it is difficult to deeply understand the content of a book.

Secondly, we need to prioritize and read in layers. Some figures in history are famous for their reading methods, such as Tao Yuanming's "not asking for a very good solution", Zhuge Liang's "reading outline" and Zhu Xi's "reading carefully". Combining these three methods is a good reading skill.

For example, reading books about sweets is just for entertainment, as long as you don't ask for too much understanding.

For staple food books, just have a look and quickly find what you want to use. Then, for the departments you need, you can read them from the beginning, that is, "read them carefully."

For food books, you need to read carefully and understand and appreciate the profound and subtle ideas.

Therefore, in order to improve reading efficiency, we should first distinguish between fragmentary time and complete time, and make different books for different types of time. At the same time, for different types of books, we should prioritize and use the correct method, instead of using the method of "reading and thinking carefully" from beginning to end when all types of books appear.

On the way to study, it is not smooth all the way. We have different reading goals in each journey, corresponding to different reading methods. Mr. Hao, the author of this book, gives seven steps on the road to reading, just like the seven increasingly powerful big bosses we encounter when fighting monsters on the road of life. Only by conquering one level can you enter the next level until you reach the top. So which seven steps are they waiting for us to climb?

The first step, we care about how to make ourselves better. So I will read some books on career, financial management, inspirational, health and so on.

In the first step, we care about how to get better with the people we love, and we will look for books on psychology, love, marriage, parenting and so on.

Thirdly, we begin to appreciate abstract beauty and read books on philosophy, religion and science.

In the fourth step, we will learn more about the society we live in and think about how the society works and how a small organization works. At this time, you have a certain understanding of human nature and social mechanism.

Step five, you begin to understand and appreciate the ideas of people whose ideas are different from yours. You no longer live narrowly in your own values, but find different bright spots with an inclusive attitude.

The sixth step is to experience the beauty of multi-knowledge interaction. Knowledge in different fields is interrelated and interwoven into a huge network in your mind. You can walk freely in the forest of knowledge, lifting weights easily.

Finally, you successfully climbed the seventh ladder and felt the beauty of cosmic wisdom. This wisdom transcends all times and life.
