2. Next year: The first day of the first month is the biggest festival in Bengbu. On the fifth day of this day, incense is burned and firecrackers are set off to show the arrival of the New Year. This is called "Welcome the New Year" and also called "Welcome the Spring". Have flat food (jiaozi) and glutinous rice balls (Yuanxiao) for breakfast.
Happy New Year: On the morning of New Year's Day, adults and children should put on new clothes and shoes. After breakfast, adults take their children out to pay New Year greetings. Generally, you should bring four boxes of snacks when visiting New Year. Snacks are packed in fruit boxes wrapped in thick paper. The fruit box is rectangular and tied with cotton paper rope. It is covered with a square piece of red paper with the word "Fu" printed on it and sprinkled with gold.
This Spring Festival will last until the fourth day of the Lunar New Year. People are dressed up and ready to go out to pay New Year's greetings or wait at home to receive people who come to pay New Year's greetings.
4. Have a reunion dinner: Before dinner on New Year's Eve, every family should go to the water to burn incense and shoot guns to worship the well god. This is the old custom of "sealing the well". Eating fish on New Year's Eve means "fish every year" (surplus). In the past, the rice cooker was not empty, and generally a fish was kept. Some people deliberately let the children open the rice cooker to see what's inside.
The child ran to see it and came back and said loudly, "There are fish in the pot." The adult said happily, "OK, I have fish (surplus) in the pot, so don't worry about eating it all!" "This is also a custom to win goodwill and luck.
5. Shounian: After the New Year's Eve, the housewife will burn incense in front of the kitchen to pick up the kitchen god, and the younger generation will kowtow to the elders and resign. The elders gave the underage children a red paper bag to congratulate them on adding another year. From this night to the first day of New Year's Day, don't turn off the lights all night, call the ever-burning lamp to light a pot of fire. The whole family chats around the brazier, eats candy, melon seeds and peanuts, and stays up all night. This is the so-called shou sui.
6. Temple Fair and Flower Show: During the Spring Festival, temples of all sizes are open to pilgrims and tourists. There are fairs in and in front of the temple, called temple fairs. The flower show in the suburbs is the most active during the Spring Festival, and almost every village has a flower show. There are many performances, such as stilts, dry boats, Taiping drums, yangko, banners, lions, cars, bamboo horses and so on. Some villages have to build greenhouses, hang lanterns and perform various programs.
