Weihai is a municipality under the jurisdiction of Shandong Province, located in the east of China and at the eastern end of Shandong Peninsula. It is bordered by the Yellow Sea in the north, east and south, Liaodong Peninsula in the north, Korea Peninsula across the sea in the east and Yantai in Shandong in the west. On June 1987 and 15, Weihai was upgraded to a prefecture-level city, and the original county-level Weihai was set as a green area. Weihai city belongs to hilly area with large ups and downs, with gentle topography, gentle valley width and slope. Located in the mid-latitude, it belongs to the continental climate of north temperate monsoon, with obvious seasonal changes and monsoon advance and retreat. Compared with inland areas at the same latitude, it has the characteristics of abundant rainfall, moderate annual temperature and mild climate.
Weihai has jurisdiction over Huancui District, Wendeng District, Rongcheng City and Rushan City, 48 towns, 24 sub-district offices, 2,425 villagers' committees and 323 residents' committees. By 2020, the permanent population of the city will be 2.836 million. The total area is 5799.84 square kilometers.
