Yiling History Yiling District is one of the birthplaces of Bachu culture.
It belonged to the "domain of Jingzhou" in ancient times and was an important place in Xisai of Chu State during the Spring and Autumn and Warring States periods.
In the 21st year of King Qingxiang of Chu (278 BC), Qin general Bai Qi "attacked Chu, uprooted Ying, and burned Yiling." The name of Yiling first appeared in the annals of history.
In the twenty-sixth year of Qin Shihuang (221 BC), the prefectures and counties under the empire were changed to Yiling and Wu County was established.
In the Western Han Dynasty, Yiling County was restored.
In the first year of Wu Huangwu in the Three Kingdoms (AD 222), Yiling was renamed Xiling.
